Forums - General - Help Setting Up a Computer

So, I've recently gotten a new computer. It's the first one I've dealt with that's had any sort of customization and I want some help on a few things since customer support sucks and I'm not familiar with Vista.

First, if I've got a non-standard graphics card, I need to unistall whatever's there and install it even if Dell put it in when building the computer, right?

Second, I've got a NetGear WG111 v2 Wireless Adapter. Upon installing it and when turning on the computer, I'll have an internet connection for about two minutes and then... boom. I completely lose any ability to connect to the network; I can't even locate it. I'm guessing that I need to download the most recent version of the installation crap, but I find it hard to understand how I download something without an internet connection. Can I burn that kind of thing onto a CD?

Edit: Relevant Specs:
Dell XPS 410
GeForce 8600GT Graphics Card
Windows Vista Home Premium

Might be a wireless router problem. Have you tried resetting the router?

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

 Several times.  All other computers in the house (several are wireless) retain their internet connection.

Yes, you can burn them onto a CD. Just download the drivers for vista on another computer and burn to CD. Go in vista and click

Control Panel -> Device Manager

Find your device and right-click update drivers. Follow the prompts and located them on the CD (or the HD if you copied them off, whatever is more convenient).

Once you get the network card working, go to Windows update and install all updates for improved reliability, security and other drivers. Also, if you have a firewall with your router i suggest properly setting that up and disabling windows firewall.

Vista definatly has a lot more eye-candy then XP

haha. much better answer. I hate dells too, but not everyone knows enough to build from scratch or go to a site with in-depth customization.

 It's my brother's comp, not mine.  I'm just setting it up so I can run more graphically demanding games on it.
