Forums - Sales - Microsoft is smart..

It is obvious by the rumours and such some time before the announcement that Microsoft had put plenty of work into the restructure of its range and were not reacting to any Sony announcement. That said the Slim will of been in production for a long while and it is very unlikely that Microsoft did not have some understanding of its progress.

Although the 360 may be stealing the thunder of the PS3 Slim I still think the persons buying that console are what is left of pent up demand and little swayed by the advertising.

I am not sure what advetising Sony are pushing across the globe but the TV advert I saw last night seemed to be the same old confusing ad. I think the "It only does everything" is the message they need to be getting across and the adverts I am seeing are not getting any clear message across. How you manage to market a slogan like that when it clearly does not without adding the old faithfull "It probably does almost everything" I am not sure.

MS is always aggressive on advertising in US.

I don't think it's out of the question for one company to pay off a retailer to exclude their competitor from ad space. Everyone's got a price. That's what we're seeing right now.

That's more of copy cat than anything, tbh.

Being competitive is "copy cat?" Sounds like fan boy logic "tbh."

No, it's more like.

OH SHIT, Sony did it.. So we need to do it! Or they might beat us!!!

tbh.

You do know what a price-war is, don't you? You can see this in EVERY industry. Cars, electronics, food etc.

But I guess MS is already the devil himself in your logic, so nvm.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Wich TV Spot are they showing

too funny, microsoft is smart, microsoft is desperate to keep ahead, who cares about elite for 299.00. you could have a 360 for 200 bucks with a harddrive for 249.00. most people have been waiting for sony to drop the price, the ps3 is what is wanted. sony knows that why should they spend a bunch more money for no reason. its actually sony is smart. why do you think ps3 sales are through thr roof, and 360s are NOT

MMh, we don't have the same source apparently:

- First, only Nintendo sales are ... what you called 'thr roof', not Sony nor MS

- We don't have the figures for the PS3 slim at the moment.

Depserate to keep ahead... 8 millions is a long way to come...

Exactly.

SONY needs to advertise like mad.

People must see the PS3 Slim everywhere & say "Hey, I WANT that new playstation"

I went to gamestop about a week ago, and all over the store they had PS3 slim posters and the "It only does everything" slogan, and the $299 price, everyone was buying one, it felt like sony finally got it right with there advertisements, and people were finally looking at the ps3 thanks to the lower price and what not.. but, the elite just had a price cut, today i go to gamestop, and guess what I see? Posters all over the store, not one poster advertising the $299 PS3 slim, but posters saying "the best nexgen experience is now only $299, XBOX 360 ELITE" and it showed a black 360 with a white/green background. Microsoft imo has stolen sony's thunder "ADVERTISEMENT" wise already on retail outlets, and I also went to best buy, and saw 360 ads everywhere, not any PS3 slim ads, but did see the ps3 slim itself.

I see microsoft taking over the TV with advertisements as well.. eclispsing sony's advertising campaign, I just wonder why they didnt do this last generation?

And as further proof...exhibit 1:

www.bestbuy.com

This week's flyer for Best Buy...Page 10...NO mention of the PS3 price cut, and Xbox launches a buy one - half off for games.  I wasn't looking for anything, but now I'm tempted...too bad it doesn't apply to pre-orders.

Here, I don't see any ads but I believe people are expecting the slim.

I checked the second-hand market this moring (eBay, Kapaza...) and they have plenty of un-sold PS3.

It has less value now, people want to pay for a new one.
