Here's an argument, I don't think making a bunch of games in the same series is milking. The reason people started to call the Halo franchise milked was because they started making other genres of games and then putting them in the Halo Universe to try and drum up sales (halo wars). That to me is the essence of milking a franchise, when you try and sell games that have little to do with the original product by using the name. By this logic the only MGS I can think of that I'd count as milking would be the portable game that was a turn based card system. So both franchises have been milked to the same degree.

If you want to stop Sony, M$ or Ninty from milking franchises, stop buying those games. It is that simple. If you keep buying, they will keep milking.

You do realise that of the 30 games on that list many of them are the same game but on different consoles and or re-releases! This thread is a fail!

I realize that, but judging from the thread title, it's clearly meant to be a response to something he read somewhere on the forums. Unfortunately the execution of the thread is very toastboy like though.

Sony/PS titles have been on twice as many platforms and franchises have been out much longer. If Halo has had 4 installments soon on 2 platforms, imagine in MS had been in the industry with it in the early days, or if they had a handheld.

I'm confused, I tough I played all the Halo games, 1,2,3, where's 4,5 and 6 ? I guess I missed on a bunch of MGS games, what the hell is going on here...

Well the OP is right that MGS is milked.

There is like 2 versions with each game. Substance, Substenance... But still, there is no 30 MGS games.

And Halo isn't that milked. There will be 6 halo games by 2010. So in 10 years there are 6 games. Count howmany Mario, Sonic, Guitar hero, EA sports and Call of duty games there are in the same period of time.
