Here's an argument, I don't think making a bunch of games in the same series is milking. The reason people started to call the Halo franchise milked was because they started making other genres of games and then putting them in the Halo Universe to try and drum up sales (halo wars). That to me is the essence of milking a franchise, when you try and sell games that have little to do with the original product by using the name. By this logic the only MGS I can think of that I'd count as milking would be the portable game that was a turn based card system. So both franchises have been milked to the same degree.
