Forums - Microsoft - Why Xbox Live is Worth the Price

I've yet to try Xbox Live my self, so i can't really say, but there is one thing i can say... I dont need another bill other then my internet bill a P2P bill isn't worth it over that IMO, even if it is one time a year which could go to various other games, or food, or drink or whatever.

Its the reason why i choose to pick PS3 as my main gaming platfrom overall this gen because of PSN and it being free... not if PSN was P2P to OR XBL was Free it would be a whole other ball game. but its not so in conclusion its not worth it in my honest opinion.

PlayTV only has a DVB-T tuner. The HD channels that are coming to Freeview use DVB-T2, which PlayTV does not currently support - it even says that on the Wikipedia page you linked to. Besides which, there aren't even any HD channels being broadcast via Freeview at the moment.

And I don't know what I'm talking about? Which consoles do you own? Just a PS3 yeah? lol. It's amazing how some PS3 owners that have never even touched a 360 seem to be convinced that Xbox Live isn't worth the money.

i had a ps3 DS PSP, had a wii sold it, my brother have a 360 and a ps3.

if you mean by HD 1080p nothing broadcast in that, best u can get its 720p/1080i, which its support it in hardware.

freeview offers some channel in 720p and playtv works .

it can even upscale SD Pal TV to 720p-1080i

my country went for DVB-T so i am excited.

nokia and samsung phones support it, and so now will my ps3.

everything from a huge selection of demos, xbox originals, games on demand, xbla games, netflix, huge selection of movies , has a huge selection of anime ( just need like a 500hdd to download everything that i want ),1 vs 100,dlc is huge, has all the best dlc either exclusive or damn near exclusive, cross game chat, downloads everything alot faster than psn, avatars. thats off of the top of my list. i will always glady pay $50 a year for xbl.

"One important feature that Xbox Live has over Sony's PlayStation Network is the ability for gamers to be in a chat with up to eight friends no matter what game their friends are playing. The PlayStation Network doesn't even offer multiple person private chats or chatting with friends playing a different game. If you want to talk to a group of friends you have to all join the same multiplayer game, all be on the same team, and all own microphones (which is another issue)."

"One little known benefit of having gamers pay for Xbox Live is that the developers don't need to. On the Playstation Network, developers have to pay for their game's online features while on Xbox Live the subscription fees pay for that."

"I have also heard that
PlayStation Network frequently has large amounts of lag and disconnections when compared to Xbox Live."

"On the PlayStation Network hackers and cheaters just have to create a new account and they can continue cheating to their heart's content."

this is outdated.
ps3 now offers, a chat up 16 players even if they are in different games.
just not voice chat yet. So...Your saying..that it offers text chat for up to 16 players?

and i join friends  and there is space left in the team you will join in the same squad, at least in games like killzone 2. LOL....

and if you want exclusives demo, just suscribe to Qore. LOL....

this articles its all "oh i am also heard!". he probably never played on psn. I have....KillZone2 froze on about 5 times during MP...But most likely it was becuase it was on Wifi..

lags depends on various things, lbp had small lag when joining a game, but it disappear after u success ful joined now with the patches logging in it's smooth. Every service has lag...that's just how it is..no need to cherry pick..but Live Almost never Lags...Halo 3 has 0% lag all the time.

but games like resistance 2, had 60 players matches and run smooth. Should be like the Halo 3 of PS3 in terms of server dedication.

and it's free. But is it worth your time?

then he doesn't take into account PSN services-

Vidzone, Home, PS Video Store, PlayTV, etc. Video Market Place = VidZone,Ps Video Store, Video Market Place...

PlayTv requires an Add on...so add that to the PS3's over all price...LOL

Not worth it since there is a similar software for free.

extra voice chat option isn't worth the money especially since there are a lot of *ps3 games which have voice chat option included in the game. Also you could  1use ventrilo or any other voice chat program if you have a computer.

2You'll also save nice amount of money for not paying online fees.

*All MP Xbox 360 games have Voice chat included...

1 So how much is the total cost of a PS3 when you you add a PC to use Ventrillo to the price?

2 And then spend it on Taxed DLC and PSN games if your into that...

I will try to keep it as simple as possible. I wantto play COD4 . I choose this game as it is multiplatform and is supposed to be very good online. After buying the game for $60 on either PS3 or X360 or $50 on PC. I get the full game all features enabled and I play online. Why is it I have to pay extra to play it on the X360. I don't care about demos, movies or anything else. I just want to play the game I bought to its fullest.
Why is this free on the other platforms and not the X360.
If MS and Sony feel the need to sell me demos, previews insider access and all that crap I don't want I don't have to buy it. I only want to play COD4 so that is all I should have to pay for. It's that's simple, I want to play what I payed for. It is unfair that others can play online unlimited for the price of the game and I can't.

But you don't have live so why does it bother you?

I want demos for free. I love demos and I'm not going to pay for that when it is free elsewhere but I don't go into sony forums yelling that qore is a rip off and acting like my excuses for it are the only reasons that can should be true. I enjoy what I have and leave others to do what they want to. Why can't the people on here. You can't ignore qore and what it represents because you aren't interested in it if it comes up. If XBL gold is a scam to you then so is qore to me. It has all of the arguments you make against Gold in it.

You have what you want and even if you and others seem to be so offended by anything ms... i mean XBL Gold you could not act so critical of it when millions enjoy the service and are very happy with it. Happy enough to pay. To me if you can't state your opinion in a well thought out way in a thread you don't belong in then you're trolling. This doesn't necassarily apply to you.

So its acceptable to pay for Qore but not XBL even though you can get them for near the same price.   Right >_>

Qore is optional, and i will never pay for it.

i just want my multiplayer online free. and i got it =).

XBL Gold is optional and a lot chose never to pay for it it just seems like some people here act like you HAVE to pay for it. Personally qore is a bigger rip-off as demos should be free.

Gold it's not optinal for Multiplayer gaming. >_

Just like Qore isn't optional if you want to play demos of most games <_< >_>

Demos of games from Qore... hmmm there's only been like 5 of them off there all of them showed up on the psstore later, you did say 'most' so you're misleading us all.  This is not most it's just a few.

I recon a few of you guys think it's worth the cost, that's fair that someone could come to that conclusion, it's an oppinion.  The problem is that we're forced to pay for it to play online.  If this was the general consenssus that the experience and features of live are worth paying for, Microsoft should have no problem offering a more bare-bones experience that does allow multiplayer gaming.  Since the majority of people thought xboxlive was worth the cost they'd surely pay up right??  Microsoft doesn't do this because they know not many people would buy live anymore.

The qore comparisons are almost laughable to me because It's OPTIONAL, most PS3 owners probably don't even know what it is.  Not paying for qore doesn't restrict you from playing all games online.

They do from time to time. and The majority do pay. After all if like people who don't own a 360 keep telling us that do, over 50% sold are arcade. Sold to people why don't care about online.

If qore is optional then so is gold. Not everyone cares about online and for you to keep acting like just because you do everyone else shoulod is laughable. Gold is optional like qore. Hey I like online mags, demos and beta invites. They are essential to me and free elsewhere so qore is something I would be forced to buy. And using your logic so is everyone else.

Lack of demos is another thing that pisses me off about PSN. I guess it's cos Sony charge the developers bandwidth fees, so that puts them off, but there are almost certainly games on PSN that I'd love, that I haven't bought because there's no demo and I'm not willing to pay for them without trying them first. It also works the other way - I've bought a couple of games on PSN that turned out to be shit, just cos they were cheap and I liked the sound of them, but had I played a demo first I wouldn't have bought them.

I was interested in Fat Princess until it turned out to be £12 and had no demo, so no sale there (good job really, as it seems nobody plays as a team cos hardly anyone has a mic, and the game has been plagued with connection issues). Smash Cars was another game I liked the look of, but that's also £12 and has no demo, so I won't be buying it.

Vidzone its FREE video music streaming service.
Lastfm. streams radio like audio
and its available also on the ps3! using the browser.
same for twitter youtube and FULL Facebook and we even had hulu til they blocked the ps3 browser.
playtv its only available in europe because american crappy network.
DVB its being pushed that now even cellphones have a digital TV.

VidZone is super low-def, has pop up ads that appear during the vids, and forced ads you have to sit through in between them. 16:9 videos don't play in full screen either, and at times the app takes forever to load. It's odd that I've seen a lot of PS3 owners say "I would never settle for DVD again now that I can play Blu-Rays", yet they seemed over the moon about a service that offers lower quality videos than YouTube.

Last.fm, Twitter and Facebook will be integrated into the 360's dashboard, so you'll be able to do things like stream Last.fm to everyone in a party, or post a screenshot from a game straight to your Facebook page from within games, as long as they support that feature, which I'm sure many will. There'll be no need to drop what you're doing and open a browser that's inferior to any PC browser just to do those things.

PlayTV turns your PS3 into an SD-only DVR that can only record Freeview channels. I have cable TV, so it's useless for me, and is an inferior solution to just about any stand-alone DVR that you can buy. My cable set top box has 3 tuners, can record any channel I like, and supports HD.

All those new 360 features will require gold you know. The reason free to play MMORPG works is because people pay what they want and only what they want. If MS offered silver membership the same stuff as PSN, I really doubt many will pay that extra $40-50 a year for gold.

Will they? How do you know?

MS said they are still working on it so everyone can get it.
