Forums - Microsoft - Why Xbox Live is Worth the Price

Not worth it since there is a similar software for free.

extra voice chat option isn't worth the money especially since there are a lot of ps3 games which have voice chat option included in the game. Also you could use ventrilo or any other voice chat program if you have a computer.

You'll also save nice amount of money for not paying online fees.

As an owner of all of the current consoles, I'll happily pay for Xbox Live while it continues to be superior to PSN.

COD3 on PS3 = no voice chat.
COD4 on PS3 = no trophies, missing options in the lobbies.
COD:WAW on PS3 = missing options in the lobbies, no option to choose locale only, locale first or worldwide for multiplayer game searches.

And of course you only have open voice chat in the 2 games that do support it, the invites/join system works better on the 360, and when a friend is playing COD, I can see exactly which map/mode he's playing either through the dashboard, xbox.com, or through an app on my PC.

Another thing to consider is the price of the DLC. Map packs for COD:WAW on the 360 are £6.80 each. On the PS3 they're £7.99 each. I bought all 3 map packs for the 360 version for £6 each by buying cheaper pre-paid cards (still not available for the PS3 in this country), so that's a £6 price difference - enough to pay for 3 months of vastly superior online service via Xbox Live.

I wonder how many people moaning about paying 50p a week for Live actually own 360s or have used Live to compare? Not many, I bet. Personally, cross-game chat is a vital feature for me. If MS removed it, I'd head over to the EA forums and post loads of porn and death threats. ;)

So its acceptable to pay for Qore but not XBL even though you can get them for near the same price.   Right >_>

Qore is optional, and i will never pay for it.

i just want my multiplayer online free. and i got it =).

XBL Gold is optional and a lot chose never to pay for it it just seems like some people here act like you HAVE to pay for it. Personally qore is a bigger rip-off as demos should be free.

Gold it's not optinal for Multiplayer gaming. >_

Just like Qore isn't optional if you want to play demos of most games <_< >_>

Demos of games from Qore... hmmm there's only been like 5 of them off there all of them showed up on the psstore later, you did say 'most' so you're misleading us all.  This is not most it's just a few.

I recon a few of you guys think it's worth the cost, that's fair that someone could come to that conclusion, it's an oppinion.  The problem is that we're forced to pay for it to play online.  If this was the general consenssus that the experience and features of live are worth paying for, Microsoft should have no problem offering a more bare-bones experience that does allow multiplayer gaming.  Since the majority of people thought xboxlive was worth the cost they'd surely pay up right??  Microsoft doesn't do this because they know not many people would buy live anymore.

The qore comparisons are almost laughable to me because It's OPTIONAL, most PS3 owners probably don't even know what it is.  Not paying for qore doesn't restrict you from playing all games online.

If MS offered a basic play online live for free, i'd be very interested to see how much people pay for the additional "far superior" services. my guess is the very people defending it on these forums would drop it like a bad habit as soon as they realize the most important thing is to playing the damn games online.

this is outdated.
ps3 now offers, a chat up 16 players even if they are in different games.
just not voice chat yet. (Then what good is it exactly..)

and i join friends  and there is space left in the team you will join in the same squad, at least in games like killzone 2. (basic feature every xbox live enabled game has.)

and if you want exclusives demo, just suscribe to Qore. (kind of hypocritial)

this articles its all "oh i am also heard!". he probably never played on psn. (what?)

lags depends on various things, lbp had small lag when joining a game, but it disappear after u success ful joined now with the patches logging in it's smooth.

but games like resistance 2, had 60 players matches and run smooth.

and it's free. (no arguement here.)

then he doesn't take into account PSN services-

Vidzone, Home, PS Video Store, PlayTV, etc. (you certainly have a 1UP in terms of fanboy ammo when it comes to home. But xbox getting last FM offsets vidzone, and PS video store is not really a feature (and xbox has had it for alot longer, and netflix, mind you) PlayTV is only available in europe. It's pretty cool though, I might add.)

lol.

thats not ammo, those are features >_>

Vidzone its FREE video music streaming service.
Lastfm. streams radio like audio
and its available also on the ps3! using the browser.
same for twitter youtube and FULL Facebook and we even had hulu til they blocked the ps3 browser.
playtv its only available in europe because american crappy network.
DVB its being pushed that now even cellphones have a digital TV.

I wasn't going to respond, but I noticed you refrenced the ps3's bullshit internet browser. lol. I mean, if you want to compare facebook ps3 and facebook xbox go ahead. I'm sure the version that is customized for that console would come out on top though. Same goes for twitter, and last.fm.

I don't even really know why you typed that last bit though. I can only assume it's self-justification, as it really doesn't add/change anything.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Lack of demos is another thing that pisses me off about PSN. I guess it's cos Sony charge the developers bandwidth fees, so that puts them off, but there are almost certainly games on PSN that I'd love, that I haven't bought because there's no demo and I'm not willing to pay for them without trying them first. It also works the other way - I've bought a couple of games on PSN that turned out to be shit, just cos they were cheap and I liked the sound of them, but had I played a demo first I wouldn't have bought them.

I was interested in Fat Princess until it turned out to be £12 and had no demo, so no sale there (good job really, as it seems nobody plays as a team cos hardly anyone has a mic, and the game has been plagued with connection issues). Smash Cars was another game I liked the look of, but that's also £12 and has no demo, so I won't be buying it.

VidZone is super low-def, has pop up ads that appear during the vids, and forced ads you have to sit through in between them. 16:9 videos don't play in full screen either, and at times the app takes forever to load. It's odd that I've seen a lot of PS3 owners say "I would never settle for DVD again now that I can play Blu-Rays", yet they seemed over the moon about a service that offers lower quality videos than YouTube.

Last.fm, Twitter and Facebook will be integrated into the 360's dashboard, so you'll be able to do things like stream Last.fm to everyone in a party, or post a screenshot from a game straight to your Facebook page from within games, as long as they support that feature, which I'm sure many will. There'll be no need to drop what you're doing and open a browser that's inferior to any PC browser just to do those things.

PlayTV turns your PS3 into an SD-only DVR that can only record Freeview channels. I have cable TV, so it's useless for me, and is an inferior solution to just about any stand-alone DVR that you can buy. My cable set top box has 3 tuners, can record any channel I like, and supports HD.

Wow there are alot of things you guys are listing for both live and psn that i've never even heard of. By the next generation all we will need is a console and an HDTV once MS and Sony iron all these things.

only available for gold.

the browser can render the pages. its faster than IE (not something to be proud of really).

and playTV is HD, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayTV

and it works with DVB which is a digital TV network.

it can even record HD, and also can upscale SD channels.

i am not even bothering with you. clearly you don't know what you talking about.

PlayTV only has a DVB-T tuner. The HD channels that are coming to Freeview use DVB-T2, which PlayTV does not currently support - it even says that on the Wikipedia page you linked to. Besides which, there aren't even any HD channels being broadcast via Freeview at the moment.

And I don't know what I'm talking about? Which consoles do you own? Just a PS3 yeah? lol. It's amazing how some PS3 owners that have never even touched a 360 seem to be convinced that Xbox Live isn't worth the money.

All those new 360 features will require gold you know. The reason free to play MMORPG works is because people pay what they want and only what they want. If MS offered silver membership the same stuff as PSN, I really doubt many will pay that extra $40-50 a year for gold.
