It's always on the server. We can always download it again.....but will I download my status in Ocarina of Time, or my time trial records in Wave Race? Boo! Perrin! I boo you!
Also, I use my SD card for my cell phone & camera as well. If I keep taking it out of my Wii, sooner or later, I'm gonna lose it. Can I still re-download?
Is she leaving? Why? What will she be doing next, MILF videos?
Edit: now I've read the whole thing and got my two first questions answered. So just answer the third one :)

WN: Another issue that’s coming down the pipe as more and more content appears on Virtual Console and with Wii Ware coming out is the issue of space on the Wii. You can’t run stuff off of the SD card. It all has to be on the onboard memory. Are you looking at solutions to expand this? PK: I think that Nintendo loves to have a really clean approach to what they’re doing, and the idea is to not have too much of a packrat syndrome, where you’ve got so much stuff stacked up that… you want to just have products that you’re actually going to continue to use. Virtual Console’s a really good idea. And it’s on the server, so one Chris Kohler purchases it, it’s always his. You can download it again. So it’s a matter of what do I want to play today. I think we also did the tradeoff: for the price, the size, the flexibility of the system, for us to do all kinds of things. Instead of having a huge box. WN: At the same time, my memory is full. I went to download the Neo Geo games, and it’s like, “you need x blocks of memory.” So it’s like playing a puzzle game, and I have to look at all my memory and think, what do I not want anymore, okay, I’ll move it over here… And it’s a laborious process. There’s just no plans to change this right now? PK: We’re always talking. But if your refrigerator’s full, you’ve got to pull something out and put something else back in. That’s just the normal issue of space. I mean, really, are you using every single thing on there?

Everyone has fish memory these days... Perrin was in deny mode... however a certain release statement via a partner back in April shows that the Wii will be getting external storage via SD cards and USB devices. If you read my comment on that site you'd already know this.
WOW... what's this?!?!

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.
dang it, now you're telling me to remove the duct tape on my wii?
Now that's just plain dumb. She'd rather have people put stress on their servers by redownloading stuff they already paid for (Nintendo loses money), than let them buy expensive Wii-only hard drives (Nintendo makes money)?
They're going to give us USB-hard drive support when the big Wii Ware games arrive at the very latest. Hopefully they'll let us use our existing stuff, but even one that can only be used with the Wii is better than nothing.
There is no disadvantage for consumers to the Wii having hard-drive space especially considering the VC which allows you to spend money to fill that space.
Arguably with the fun of the virtual console to explore all the old games, the Wii is the console that would benefit the most from having a hard-drive.
I have two, and only two problems with the Wii. What do i do when all space is used(which has happened) and what happens with my VC-games if the system breaks down since the only evidence that i bought those games are stored on the Wii. A hard-drive would fix both of those problems. It has to be some way of formatting the harddrive to only be useable on one specific wii
I am truly shocked how the community is turning a Nintendo virtue into a Nintendo crime against humanity. Have we forgotten that we are discussing the Wii. A very cheap system. Have we forgotten that Nintendo is not going to create a system that promotes piracy.
Nintendo has adopted a rather fair approach. They do not force the consumer to buy additional storage. They honor your purchases into perpetuity. You can use a card if you like, but it is not needed. The end result is even if you become cramped for space you can lose a game right now, and then go back for it later at no additional charge. Do the other console manufacturers do that when you start to run out of space? No you have to buy things back you already bought.
This is a lot of complaining about nothing.
WN: Do you see the Wii as having a shorter lifespan, now, than the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360?
PK: I don't know that the PS3 has a lifespan yet.
WN: Ouch!
