This game is already the best selling third party current generation home console game this generation in Japan. There isn't even a first party game on the PS3/360 that's sold as much in Japan. Also, it's generating online revenue outside of the retail sales.
Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

This is the first evidence I see. (bolded above when you state "further evidence" thereby implying there was evidence of this already). But this is beside the point anyway. What I meant in my post was that I do not see the point of discussing sales (or supply/demand) based on pictures (ie anecdotal evidence) when we have VGC, Media Create and Famitsu giving us weekly figures. That means that if you are right in saying that MH3 (even the CCPro bundles) is having a hard time selling, we will know soon enough. Making a thread based on your evidence comes out qs foolish and wishful thinking. But once again, you may be proven right in the weeks to come (ie sales of MH3 drop off quickly and disappears from the charts). |
Well he didn't say it had a hard time selling, he said it is not in short supply. I think we can agree on that, at least the white CC bundle is not in short supply. MH3 is still moving though, no need for anecdotal evidence for that.

Well, they spent a lot advertising MHFU on PSP and while sales did improve, they still aren't very good. |
Japan is the opposite of the west though in this case. A game like MH will do better on consoles then on handhelds in the west, people love online multiplalyer on consoles. the PSP is especially hard to move software on, it's not really surprising.

Even if MH3 does better in the West because it's on a console, I'm not sure it'd make up for the sales they lost in Japan if they would've decided to make this game on the PSP. I think out of the three consoles that a Wii version would've sold the best, but given that the sales are good but not exactly amazing, a PSP version probably would've been the smarter choice.

yea but I don't think you understand what they're trying to do. Of course they're gonna release it on PSP anyways, they always do. First they want to milk it away on consoles, then put it on handhelds. They also want to make it big in the west, and to do that they need to put it on consoles.

The profit margin may be substantial with online revenue, so it's difficult to judge the success purely on retail sales.

So many defenders of this game's sales.
If Capcom says they want to ship 2m WW, and says the initial shipment for Japan is 1m, one can assume they wanted to sell significantly more than 1m in Japan. Like, d'uh.
It was expected that the game would be the best-selling third party home console game in Japan so far this gen... They had an initial shipment of 1m units. The last 150K of which are in bargin bins right now. Being the best-selling third party home console game in Japan so far this gen, while it sounds impressive, was not the measure of success for this game.
This is not to say the game is a total failure. It is not a flop by any stretch of the imagination. Bionic Commando sold just a fraction of what was expected. That was a flop. This game could still reach 80%+ of expectations if you include the inevitable special edition, and the game sells decently in the West. And then the PSP remake will probably sell 2.5m in Japan alone.
The game is just not lighting up the charts like some are still pretending it is.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Uh... it's going to come out for PS3.
I mean the PSP monster hunters were ports of the PS2 games.
The real question is... did it outsell what it would sell on the PS3 or PS2. (The answer there is yes.)
Still it could of sold better. Though considering monster hunter PSP legs and Wii legs... the game may yet sell well through everything and even get a second shipment.
All depends really.
At the rate it's going... it has a chance for another 300,000. Which means they'd need to ship 700,000 through Europe and America.
It's possible if they actually plan to follow through with the advertising. Which I believe Nintendo was actually helping with weren't they? Or was that Dragon Quest?
