It is. I never hear the fan on the 60 gig. I can hear the fan on the 80 gig.
Thanks for the input, Jeff.

We will know in a month or so if the heat really is an issue, but the review said it didn't improve on the old model, not that it built up more heat, so.
Only real complain I see is the slower loading time, but unless it means longer loading times in game I see no big problem.
Sony, give us Swedes a REAL price cut so I can afford this thing :)

The 360 sounds like a jet plane, but that's mostly because of the DVD drive. If you play a game from the HDD, it's not nearly as noisy.

I now have two 360s (I gave the older one to my son), and the newer unit is dramatically quieter. It would appear they've found a way to significantly reduce the DVD drive noise.
As an aside, the heat produced by the new unit is also a lot less.
I don't think there's any question the PS3s have produced more heat than the 360s, it just seems that Sony has its act together when it comes to properly handling the heat.

Wow...absolutely no heat issues with mine. I have 2 phat ps3s and a brand new slim model ps3 and the slim runs super quiet and SUPER cool...especially compared to my 60 GB launch ps3. Quite impressive--I love it.

Someone posted this the other day: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation-3-Slim/1121/2 "This 12V, 1.3A monster rivals the best fans found in desktop PC machines. Sony spared no expense."

I see the link now, I still find it hard to believe. That's a lot of amps for something that doesn't require that much torque.
Crap my sterio, tv, labtop, even my mobile phone heats up like they mentioned above but do I have any problems. No. My TV has been running perfectly for 4 years, labtop 3 years, sterio 5 years. I highly doubt Sony would release a consol without testing it constently
I dobut there is heat issues, nothing that will cause the system any problems
