I don't think abstaining from voting is a very good idea unless everyone abstains, if not the mafia could easily kill a townsfolk. If more people jump on board with this abstaining thing I'll go that direction to.

The Mafia are too few to get a lynch vote on their own. If they're able to do that then it's already too late for the town.

And for the record, this is potentially dangerous metagaming but I am very nearly positive that Soriku is a townie.

I've decided that you're a townie, but it is technically okay to reveal you are one, right?

@Gnizmo

Wha- me!?

If we don't vote than the mafia will.

So if the mafia are the only ones that vote they can't lynch anybody?

Oh, come on, it's my first game, I don't want to leave early.

Do you feel good about yourself? Killing someone their first game?

@Craan: If that's the case then we have something to go on, don't we?

@dtewi: Yes, we can role claim, but that's something that I would rather save for an emergency.

I will say for the record that I have reason to believe that there may be more than one kill tonight.

Vote= Abstain

Horse manure. If we vote "at random" then voting patterns mean almost nothing - we'd be coming to a mob consensus, nothing more, and it would be impossible to draw meaningful conclusions based on whatever lynching we did. The chances in this case would be great (higher than 75%) that we would get a Townie, and in that case we're two kills behind instead of one.

I'm not a fan of random voting either. Having a few votes build up and then seeing who defends who is what I'm doing.

...maybe not FoS then. Too hasty. However I still don't like no-lynch (never seen it work for the Town in a live game).

The only thing worse than almost nothing is nothing. If we simply abstain a round then the mafia get a free kill, and we are at square one again. If nothing else we need talking going on so we have to maintain the illusion that people want someone dead. This works equally well for the mafia, but perhaps you view it as evening the odds slightly.

...Eugh.

Leading the abstain vote is problematic, but it presents its own patterns in how people address it.
