Forums - Gaming - Sony's price cut VS. MS's price cut

Which do you feel was "bigger" and will make more of an impact on the company?

In my opinion, I think the $299 PS3 slim is the better deal. While the 360 price drop is a welcomed move, I don't think the price point for the 360 was ever much of an issue. Everyone complained about the PS3's price, since it was the most expensive.

I think what MS could have done that would have been a better counter to the PS3 price cut would be to either drop the fee for XBL (most likely wouldn't happen) or drop the price of it. I think it would attract more consumers, as well as please it's current user base.

What are you thoughts on this?

Why do you need peoples thoughts on this? I thought the answer was quite obvious...

Kantor was right about you!

Tease.

The PS3 price cut was long over due. $100 PS3 price cut (25% discount) with new PS3 Slim. The X360 is trying to reduce to the impact by reducing the Elite by $100 (25% discount). The X360 Pro has been discontinued and replaced with Elite at the new price point of $299.

PS3 is now at a price point it should have been 6 to 12 months ago. Some sales analysts believe it could be too little too late for PS3 to even catch the XBox 360 now. 8.2 million sales gap but it could fall by 2 or 3 million sales in a year's time when X360 is likely to make the next big price cut moves. $149 Arcade X360 and $249 Elite X360 250GB model could be reality for Xmas 2010. Microsoft's Natal project and in 2010 , Halo:Reach, Alan Wake and a lot of other games exclusive to 360.

If the PS3 some how won the next 3 years over the X360 in a row which is highly unlikely. The PS3 would need to outsell the X360 by an average of 60 k units per week to even equal the X360 console sales numbers.

Software attach rates: X360 has sold around 250 million software after almost 4 years. Average of 62.5 million games per year = 8 games per 360 sold. PS3 has sold around 150 million software after 3 years. Around 50 million games per year = 6 games per PS3 sold.

I don't know who the OP is, or what Kantor said, but the answer isn't obvious since it's subjective, and why do we ever need other people's opinion? Why does everything have to be a necessity? We might as well quit video games then since they're not a necessity.

Squilliam is being silly due to Yana withdrawal. My original complaint with sly777 was his "Should I buy a PS3 or Xbox 360" thread. Several people replied, with a few "Buy a PS3/360/Wii/PC/DreamCast" comments, but many (including myself) gave some information and then asked him to choose for himself.

He then went and REMADE the thread, which by now had some 750 replies. And that was annoying as hell.

This thread is nearly as pointless, because the answer is pretty obvious- only one company had a price cut. It's like asking "Which is better, the Big Mac in McDonalds or Burger King?". Burger King has no Big Mac. It has something similar, but no Big Mac.

Why the hell are we always taking the point of view of the PS3 vs the Elite ?

PS3 doesn't have an entry level offer like the 360 arcade.

People are making stupid calculation about how the PS3 has a better offer in recession time... but don't mention that, in this very recession time, cheaper is better to begin with -> 360 arcade.

IMO, the biased logic of the fanboys doesn't apply in today's market. The only thing I would concede is that the Blu-Ray player can motivate customers in spending more in one shot.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

BRAVO Akvod well said -_-

I endorse this post, even though it makes no sense, because my arch-nemesis said I was right =O

$299 PS3 Versus $199 X360. That is the bottom line.
There is now only a $100 difference in price instead of there being a $200 difference in price.

Oh, is he the guy that made TWO of those threads? =/ Fuck him man.

However, at least  this thread is just a normal discussion/debate thread, not a sudgestion thread...

so I still think that the thread itself is ok and productive, as long as the people who particiapte in it take it upon themselves to engage in civil discourse, and that the thread isn't necessarily a flame bait thread.

But yeah, this guy's a dick. He asked which console he needed to buy TWICE, after getting a shit load of replies -.-
