Forums - Sony - Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best game I've ever played!

good thread! +100 for gilgamesh
I decided to buy the ps3 when I heard the mgs4 was just released I just couldn't wait any longer to play it!

MGS4 is my favorite game this gen and it's also my favorite storyline ever, no movie or game has gotten so much emotion out of me before. (well mgs1&3 :/)

I really recommend this and the earlier games to everyone.

I don't think anyone could argue about how amazing the overall package MGS4 is, but the story had way too many holes to be considered as "the greatest story ever told".

What holes? You sound just like KylieDog here (a member at VGC).

I wouldn't say holes, but I would say flaws, and also general silliness. And a bad need of a copy editing for the script.

Kojima is a funny man indeed. I've heard about this "copy editing" stuff from other people before, but I still don't get it.

The ending scene in the graveyard would have been much more effective and much more compelling if they had managed to trim it down to about ten minutes.

They give you the option to skip it.

And why would you complain? Kickass game, kickass story, kickass cutscenes.

Who could ask for more?

Hmm. . . definitely in my top 10-15 this gen, but also my biggest dissapointment of this gen as well. I really wanted to love this, I bought a PS3 for it, for gawds sake! I clocked around 5 hours of gameplay in this game. 5 hours does not the best game ever make in my world. Best of the bunch is MGS1 for sure. But it was great to have the story tied up so nicely in the end. I will agree that Kojima knows how to spin a yarn, but good god give us some gameplay man!

MGS4 put me to sleep...and when I woke up the cutscene wasn't over.
Kojima needs an editor...

He used to be the gameplay + story king back with part 1 (and part 3) but with 4 (and 2) he completely neglected gameplay

MGS4 had the best gameplay; better shooting mechanics, and loads of stuff that the previous games never had.

They should release a whole MGS collection, with all the previous games in it. I managed to somehow misplace (i.e someone threw them in the garbage) the previous 3 games :'(

This game is so close to perfection it's ridiculous. One of my favorite games all time.

Coming from someone who's never played any other MGS....

Based on what I've read about the entire MGS story, it feels like alot of the game caters to the hardcore fans that know the plot well and have played the previous ones. It also seems that "I have nano machines" is the standard response to answer somethin they can't explain.

The game starts to feel abit slow once you get to Shadow Moses. I personally thought fighting those massive hordes of mini gekko (I forgot the names) was abit boring. Things got really awesome once you start driving REX, but I was really dissapointed at how long it lasted. Mechs are pretty common in games nowadays, but MGS4 is one of the few games that makes it feel sooo good - animation, sound, etc, it was great.

Once that's done, the action seems to wear down. The battle with Screaming Mantis was silly. Reminds me of the Leviathan battle in Resistance 2 - more for looks rather than actual gameplay. A little after that, they do the split gameplay/cutscene thing again, except it's alot better this time around, since you can actually watch it since you're only tapping X the whole time. The music and cutscene were amazing.

Overall I think it was a great game, but has an insane amount of cutscenes and definitely not enough gameplay. The installs are abit of an annoyance too - sometimes I load completely different chapters just to do some of the cool parts of the game, and having to go through 3 installs kinda sucks when you just wanna play the game.

I bought it for $35 used. I don't really having any regrets about it. I beat the game about 2-3 times before I started only slightly bored of it.

weird, reading through this thread brings back memories of the game, and I'm actually getting goosebumps and tearing up just remembering them....

I never realized just how much this game has actually stuck with me.

Awesome

Dammit, I must play it again.

Didn't want to skip it. If I skipped it, I would be missing out on the story entirely. I just wanted it to be a reasonable length, and its being overlong subtracted from the experience for me. Therefore, its length made it less awesome.

And I asked for more. A lot more. I asked for cohesion of gameplay and brevity of script, and you know what? It was too much to ask for.
