Forums - Sales - Worldwide #s up for week of Aug 22...

The PS3 already had a price cut in Southern Europe before the 22nd. Where else?

Um not really. My friend said the price is the same in Croatia and Bosnia. And its still 399€ in local stores in Slovenia. Since these 3 countries haven't cut the price I'm guessing whole ex-Yugo still has normal PS3 price.

the sales are of as to week ending aug 22...let's see the post sept sales...

Calm before the storm for PS3 in Japan. Between people holding off for a slim and limited supply of the old design, I'm expecting huge numbers next month.

I said southern Europe

I was in Portugal until the 19th of August and all the stores I saw had the PS3 at 299 € (I even checked online stores). Then I checked some online stores in Italy, Spain and France and they all had it for 299 € too.

According to the VGC data, sales went up 10-15% in those countries.

Wow wtf?  I thought the PS3 would do 300-400k  for its first price-cut week.  Maybe it will still do that when the slim is released worldwide.

Lack of stock + Slim hype = Disturbing PS3 sales.

The lack of stock must be playing part at least in Japan.

As for the Slim hype, what you say makes sense, but at the same time I would think many people don't even know the Slim is coming. I mean, it has happened before that a new model or a price cut got announced, but sales barely went down in the weeks in between the announcement and the actual price cut.

I'm not sure the general public is that informed.

The Slim and price cut were announced simultaneously. Chances are anyone that knows about one knows about the other, so I'm sure many of those who were waiting for $299 also decided to wait for the Slim.

Since, as you said, most people don't know about either (yet), it makes sense why the ps3's sales stayed roughly the same week on week.

Though there was a bit of a spike in NA and Europe.  Worldwide sales went up week on week despite the ps3 hitting an all time low in Japan.

and perhaps the week immediately after price-cut announcements can't be changing the tide...Square Enix is expecting sales to bombard only next year, Slim needs to release worldwide and stock unavailability can be small factor due to which sales won't increase as expected. Japan can be an example...360 has edged out PS3 H/W sales by almost 4k...impressing.

Well Bosnia and Croatia are both in Southern Europe. (Well South-Western actualy, but Americans don't really separate that) and Slovenia is on border. Sometimes considered, sometimes not.

The price cut already took effect in some countries, that's why I was asking which before in the thread. People who go into stores can see the new price, but not necessarily that the Slim is coming.

So Japans economy see's a 3% increase yet the ps3 post-price cut/pre slim see's less than 3k sales? Supply issues or not, there is NO WAY there were only 3,000 $299 ps3's in all of japan. I think the sales are more indicitive of rumors of a delayed FF game as well as GOW and GT5 quite possibily coming next year. People can get excited for a $299 PS3 but not if the anticipated games aren't there yet. Anyone who would want to use it as their blu-ray player probably already has decided to spend their money on one.

That is the exact reason why the European numbers are so close to 360's. So all we need is wait till 1st week's end  of sept with Slim Release.

Japan's number will be alarmingly exceeding limits, europe will continue to edge out  299$ 360 and in America will c the gap closing to 10K or much lesser and will surpass in the following weeks of ps3 slim release..

America sales will be the most interesting to watch....a turning point for both HD consoles?
