I don't disagree with him regarding what will happen... but mentioning the PS3 has a hard-drive is a non-issue for people buying a Wii as it has no need for one. People are not going to shy away from a Wii and buy a PS3 simply because it has a hard-drive.

You think Wii will lose marketshare to Sony?
Over the month of September it undoubtedly will, but I'll be damned if they'll lose market share overall from now until the holidays.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

In Mexico is really overpriced ( like 400 dlls, or more than 4,000 pesos), but in United States, $250 dls is still a good price for the mass market.

Not enough Wii is doomed. He missed the party titles and "no third party support" arguments.

There are two different things here:
Will it lose market share? Almost certainly in the short term - that's a significant drop for Sony, with a new launch - it will sell. But mainly as an addition to a 360 or a substitute for it.
Will it lose customers? Almost certainly not. The 360 and PS3 are close substitutes for each other. Not perfect but close, both in functionality and in game lineup. So somebody wanting an HD console might be swayed by price and function. The Wii is different in nearly every respect. No-one except the extremely naive will dither between an HD console and a Wii on price and function - it will be on games. And the games are different.
So I'd expect to see a *small* impact over the holiday period - when non-parent relatives are buying consoles for grandchildren/nephews/nieces, but not otherwise.
As long as the Wii keeps selling like it is now it's not overpriced.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing

I said I didn't disagree... I didn't say I agreed.
What I had a problem with was him assuming people who wanted a Wii will think "oh well the PS3 isn't much more, I'll get that instead"
Sure there will be a number of people doing that, but the majority difference this price cut/slim will be to those who were wanting a PS3 anyway, but not at it's previous price. They would not have changed their mind to a Wii had Sony not cut the price (they may already have a Wii as well anyway)
