Forums - General Discussion - So what is the bast value/quality Blu Ray player in the $500.00 range?

On a side note, I want the best console for gaming, but I do NOT want a PS3, 360, or Wii. If you post one of those, I will yell at you.

Come on man. Don't ask what the best BR player is (when it's the PS3), and then get mad when people say PS3.

Some people will come to this thread thinking you feel that people are saying PS3 for all it's other purposes, when that's not the case.

If regardless of what you bought, you would do nothing other then put movies into it, and play them constantly, the best BR only playing device you can buy is a PS3.

You asked for the best. Don't get pissed when people tell you what it is. Just ask for the second best, or the best non-PS3 player.

I stated standalone Blu Ray player to not include the PS3. How is that so difficult to understand? I do not want a PS3. This thread has nothing to do with the PS3.

People don't understand that it is ok to consider that the PS3 has one of the best (of not the best) ratio quality/money.

But when we are talking about a 500€ budget, we are aiming at entry-level for a high-end device.... and the PS3 is no high-end device, it is mass-market commoditiy.

Damn... can a fanboy understand that ?

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Thank you, at least someone here can make a comment related to the thread.

This thread has everything to do with the PS3.

My father asked the same question. He will never put music on it, never play a video game, never install another OS, never put pictures on it. All he will do with the BR player, is play movies.

The best BR player on the market for his needs. Is the PS3.

A lot of high end video file web sites and magazines use the PS3 as the reference BR player to judge moves and other BR players, because it's the best on the market.

If you don't want a PS3, then fine. But that's you bringing the PS3 into this thread. All the rest of us are doing is telling you what the best BR payer is. Unfortunately for you, it happens to be the PS3 and you don't want one. So, you will have to settle for a less capable BR player.

Good luck in your search.

This thread has to do with standalone Blu Ray players, NOT the PS3.

So ask to have this thread closed, and make a new one called "what's the best BR player not including the PS3?"

Or go to a videofile website and ask the same question (they will tell you PS3 as well).

When you ask the question "So what is the bast value/quality Blu Ray player in the $500.00 range?" and people tell you, don't get mad at them.

In reality this is starting to look more and more like a troll thread, and less like you really want the best BR player that $500 can buy you.

There is absolutely nothing I have said that pertains to trolling. You are derailing a thread pertaining to standalone Blu Ray players. I was specific in what I asked in this thread. If you don't have any suggestions other than what I have asked, why do you insist on derailing this thread?

Mafoo, go on a specialised forum and they will laugh if you mention the PS3...

It is noisy, doesn't natively decode HD sounds, only proposed a HDMi connection... etc

Sorry, but that's wrong.

"As a Blu-ray player, the performance of Sony's PlayStation 3 is simply outstanding. The player upconverts standard-def DVDs with much better than expected results visually, providing sharper, better-defined images than do most of the standalone, upscaling DVD players for sale at Wal-Mart or Costco. But, of course, Blu-ray discs and high-def games are where the PS3 really shines.  Blu-ray movies are vivid and especially crisp, with skin tones looking natural in ways you might expect from a more expensive player.  Blacks look deep and have excellent shadow detail, even when putting the PS3 up against the better $2,000 Blu-ray-only components out there."

sguy,

here is a list of all there reviews. If your looking for a stand along BR player for $500 the best one would be a PS3 that you only play movies with. The second best is in that list somewhere.

That review is a year old Mafoo.

A LOT has changed in a year.
