Forums - Sony - Sony: 360 cut wont change PS3 Slim plans

SCEE spokesperson tells MCV that tomorrow’s Xbox 360 price drop will not see PS3 Slim launch brought forward

Ahead of Microsoft’s confirmed Xbox 360 price cut announcement tomorrow, Sony has told MCV that it will not move forward the launch of PS3 Slim to compete with Microsoft’s discounted machine this bank holiday weekend.

“We have agreements in place with all retailers and Centresoft to make sure the release date is not broken,” a spokesperson stated, adding that Microsoft’s Xbox activity “won’t make any difference” to its plans.

In addition, MCV was told that Sony’s unwillingness to tinker with its planned PS3 Slim launch schedule shows “how seriously we take street dates”.

The PS3 Slim launches next Tuesday (September 1st) for £249.99.

Sony is getting confident. I like that in a company.

Nice, but they wouldn't admit to being worried if they were...

They have always been confident, and in most cases it came close to being arrogant because they had nothing to be so confident about. But this is different, now they have a very good reason to be confident but they shouldn't let it go to their head.

Useless article really, no one expects Sony to push the date closer for Microsoft's price cut. They already have the dates in place, and some retailers are already selling PS3 Slim's from the 25th.

I noticed the article also said, "It’s also likely that there will be changes made to the Arcade SKU, too."

I highly doubt that the Arcade will go below $199. This probably just means they're removing the bundled games or something.
