Country wide pop. density is not the same as living density.
(Apologies, this point was already made)
While Sweden has a lower density it is because there are not many who live in the North, in the U.S. people are more spread across the country, and even in the sections where people live, everyone has a big house with a huge garden and the streets are twice as wide as Europe.
Another example could be China.... it's population is like 1.3-1.4 billion or something, but they only need to set up internet connections down the East and South Coast and they will cover a big section of that because that's where most live.
