Forums - Nintendo - Wii Sports Resort Sells A Million In Japan

trestres said:
Hmmm, WSR sales rised because of Obon, not because of Iwata's theory which BTW was on HW.

And according to Famitsu WSR sold 39k this week, so that Iwata theory is torn apart.

Iwata's theory is "torn apart" when the Wii's regular weekly sales slide back down below 20k in Japan.

@famousringo: MH3, Black Wii and Obon have caused that spike, there's no evidence that it was WSR at all. And according to the preview the Wii is already at 30k levels, and it will go below 30k next week no doubt about it.

Iwata's theory was that Wii would see rising sales 6 - 8 weeks after the release of WSR, but so far it can't be judged because there were 3 important events that raised sales. Those were blank statements by Iwata because he knew those 3 events were going to happen like 6 - 8 weeks after the release of WSR. We will never know how much of an effect did WSR really have in this spike, but what we know is that Wii sales are going down instead of up weekly for the past weeks.

Sub-20k won't probably happen because of MH3 and Black Wii alone. But WSR selling 39k means the game dropped a lot and that the theory isn't strong.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

WSR bombed confirmed?

Sounds like you've made up your mind. I know better than to try to change it.

You can't because it will go against facts and logic. Whenever you have a proper response I will be willing to hear it.

Or you could just wait the time Iwata said, rather than declaring him wrong when it hasn't been long enough, trestres.

Well that was pretty damn unnecessary. He just said he wasn't going to argue with you, what was the point of this post?

@Lord: Well, what Iwata said was not really convincing, since he knew that Black Wii and MH3 were releasing during the period he mentioned. Now we won't ever know what the extent of what he said was true or false. We can't discard MH3 and the Black Wii only because Iwata said WSR was going to be responsible and no one will ever know.

I think Black Wii and MH3 play a bigger role since they are aiming at totally new users, while WSR aims mostly at people who already own the original. He isn't totally wrong, but disregarding MH3 and the Black Wii would not be correct. So people claiming that Iwata was correct based on the weekly HW figures are wrong, because there were 3 important events that boosted the Wii a lot.

The point is I make a well thought out response and he just disregards my opinion and just leaves. If someone challenges you and then runs away when you present him the response to his challenge, well that's totally rude. But when you are biased towards someone you will see the other one as the attacker, so you will probably disregard my post too.

Okay, I'll give that. But the important thing is that the sales stay up, regardless of why.
