Galaxy looks to be the best next generation (current generation) game ever made.  Nothing can stop it as long as it delivers.

The only thing that could steal the thunder from Galaxy has been delayed two months.

So no.

No.

Montana explained it best. I mean Super Mario Sunshine outsold every Ratchet game on the PS2 and it was a GC game. It also scored higher than every Ratchet game despite being the worst 3D Mario.

I'm really looking forward to Ratchet. I love the series, and I'm glad to hear it's returning to it's roots, but Super Mario Galaxy is being hailed with Mario 64 level satisfaction from previewers and it's on the Wii with 2.5 times the userbase. There is simply no such thing as a platformer that can take hype from Super Mario Galaxy.

R&C games are great, but c'mon, it's MARIO! The most iconic video game character ever, and easily the best platforming series ever created.

Ratchet and Clank will need more guns to take out Mario.

It comes out right before SMG and appears to be an extremely well made game. I've even read one preview in which the writer says: "If your friends ask you why you spent so much on a PS3 show them this game". I'm curious what you guys think, if this game comes out and scores >90% or even if it shockingly scores better than SMG would that cause SMG to lose some of it's appeal?

Ok... I don't know where to start... I will tell you what ran through my head "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH" but that's being silly.  Ratchet and Clank was fun on the PS2 but the yearly updates to the game made it a little less appealing.  It'll sell ok, but it won't get in the way of Galaxy.  If anything Galaxy will hurt Ratchet's sales more then Ratchet will hurt Mario's sales.  Week 1 for Ratchet will be high but once Galaxy is released, I expect ratchet to fade off into the distance.

Which I don't exactly want to happen the PS3 needs game sales.  Galaxy and Halo are the two big guns for the year now, everything else will be bowled over.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Simply put, no. If Mario Sunshine, one of the if not the worst mainline Mario games (still means it's a great game) can outdo the Rathet games 3:1 when outnumbered 5:1 system wise then Mario Galaxy, a contender to be one of the greatest games ever on a system with 2-3 times the install base will not even notice Ratchet. I seriously doubt there is any chance of Ratchet and Clank rising even to the level of being a Killzone to Mario's Halo.

That being said I wouldn't be surprised if some review site *cough* GamePro *cough* decides to give Ratchet a better score since they can't understand the controls in Mario Galaxy and it doesn't have 1080p resolution.  However, that won't mean anything outside of the celebratory threads created on sites like this one by Sony fanboys who would never buy Mario Galaxy anyways.
