Forums - Gaming - Forget Teens: Gamers Are 35, Overweight — And Sad, CDC says

The people who did this study should be fired and smacked...wut..

I'm 25, i do NOT have overweight, and i'm banging my ex 3 times a week so i'm really not that sad...

I just love gaming...

It's funny how every second person has come to this thread to say something along the lines of '' I'm not underweight and I sleep with women everyday'' Insecurity much?

Initiating social expirement #928719281

"It gives Americans just another reason to be fat, dumb and lazy.”"

Well that's not nice. We all know that only Americans play videogames. I've been playing games for more than half my life (so that's the majority), and I don't have the problems described. I mean, really. How many 30 something year old, fat, and depressed people do things besides videogames? Those don't seem to be a concern. What about the millions upon millions of people who sit on there ass and watch hours of TV? That's still a much bigger concern. At least my heart starts beating faster when I'm playing Gears of War 2.

I don't even know what their definition of gamer is. At the rate the market is diversifying, their statements are hardly true. And since they didn't sample anyone below the age of 19, they missed out on a huge population of gaming. The sample size wasn't that big, and they only sampled in a certain area of a certain state in a certain part of the U.S.

Shameless, simply shameless.

Well, I'm 24 and 190 pounds.  I was 160 in high school and would like to get back to that but I wouldn't blame videogames for the gain.  I blaim beer, but it's soooooo good.

If I lived in Washington, I'd be depressed too! Zing!

But seriously, this study isn't very scientific. Less than 500 something people from one tiny region of the country is not representative of the US as a whole.

Besides, they didn't seem to prove causation. Maybe they're introverted because they're depressed already, etc.

I know what you mean! No one is hiring..

34, run three business, two I own, I spend more time riding a bicycle than in an office.

Just last week I rode a total of 142 miles in 6 hours and 17 minutes. (Including some intense hills)

I'm pretty sure this scientifically calculated stereotype may be a smidgen inaccurate.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

35??? i find that hard to believe since a vast majority of ppl on these forums act like 10 year olds

I'm trying to put on weight (well not really trying, but making sure I don't get too skinny... I was down to 8st 12 shortly)

According to the CDC, both male and female gamers were more likely to report being overweight, having more poor-mental-health days and being less socially outgoing. Women, however, were more apt to deal with depression and report more health issues than women who aren’t gamers. For men, they reported more obesity.

From the way folks act on this site, I agree. The older crowd is gaming - while the young ones in school are going back and forth, talking about which console is best and the like. I wonder how any of you do any serious gaming.

And it's even funnier how folks are quick to call the article bogus and crap if they didn't agree with it. I wish I could visit your dream world.

CDC is rarely wrong on things - and this article is no exception.

What, son, what? New York, New York!!!
