Forums - Sales - what is the percentage ratio for preorders and first week sales?

like lets say 820k people preordered MW2 so far, if it came out right now how much would it sell first week?

That depends vastly on the game. Casual games have a lot less preorders relative to their launch numbers, and vice versa for more core games. For your specific example, we may just have to wait and see.

any guesses?^^

Between 1.2 for a hardcore title (i.e week 1 sales 20% higher than preorders) to 2-3 or more for a casual title (i.e week 1 sales 2-3 times preorders).

On average I'd say about 1.5. Obviously in the case of Modern Warfare 2, we still have 3 months of preordering to go yet...

thanks man, so sales of MW2 already have passed Wold at War  first week because it is already at about 984,000 in the US alone (if it came out today) and there are a lot of sales to be had in Europe/Canada/mexico. (On 360)

And there should be at least another 800,000 preorders on the 360 version in the US  cha-ching!

it also differs between consoles, 360 games tend to be pre-ordered more.

yeah not many wii games get preordered the way 360 games do. Though i really want to see how much NSMB Wii preorders will end up before release.

I say at least half people will buy MW2 based on pre-order numbers.

@ioi

so MW2 could outsell Halo 3 week 1

if MW2-Xbox 360 was coming out right now and those were the pre orders (800K) then it would sell like 1.6 million.

probably not alot of preorders. i don't even think core gamers are going to preorder it but will pick up within the month it is released
