We can laugh about it now as it's premature b*tching but I wouldn't laugh too hard as we don't know the quality of the hardware yet. No doubt Sony wouldn't release trash, but it could be that they pushed development to make the 2009 holiday period. It will still be a good move business-wise as 360's early release also was the basis of it's succes but for the little fanboy quarrel it could be bad news to talk too positive right now.

No. The Slim PS3 box leaked a longggg time ago. It's been ready for awhile. They actually had to wait awhile for the right time to announce/release it.

seriously the had box way before the E3.

and manufacturing months before the E3. they probably were in the final test after march somethings went 45nm

Then again, North American media never liked the PS3 anyway (kind of understandable).

Why is it understandable?  Also, Eurogamer isn't exactly pro-Sony either.

The way it was introduced (entry price through the roof), the relative lack of NA sentric games (namely exclusives) and the fact that the 360 is an American product that the mainstream media will be rooting for (at this point the 360 is more deserving of praise than the PS3 in NA). The PS3 is kind of like the 360 in Japan when it comes to North America.

What an ignorant thing to say.
Okay "last gen it happened, so that automatically means it will this gen!!"
Because Sony learned nothing, right?
Jesus, the shit people post these days are ridiculous.

Right. You can't announce it too long before release, because then too many people will decide just to wait to buy, and sales plummet.

And you can't release it too early, because it won't be able to enjoy the massive launch sales that a properly timed release would have. Late summer/early fall are the best times to release something like this.

The overheating conjecture is hardly out of the realm of possibility. Sony has already had issues with manufacturing this generation. Everyone seems to forget that when Sony started to manufacture the PS3 they were running behind schedule with difficulties, and they were still suffering from some problems up to half a year after launch, and these statements came from Sony themselves. When they thought the issue was going to be meeting demand.

So if you are under the illusion that Sony hasn't had problems. You are very sadly mistaken. That in truth actually means that Sony has probably overlooked a few steps in quality control testing, and they also could have lowered their component standards. In order to make deadlines, because lets face it they needed the slim this year, and they needed a good amount of them to exploit the new price. Otherwise their whole strategy to get back in the game would have gone to the crapper in a hurry.

I am sure Sony ran through the numbers on paper. However I am sure that Microsoft did that to. The problem is that paper gets undermined by people. When you have deadlines it is so easy to compromise the recipe to get it out the door on time. Sometimes don't leave tolerances for lower quality components that can slip into production despite their design. It isn't necessarily their fault either when it comes to them being asked to push the limit.

Anyway Sony does seem to be getting to the market quite fast especially when you consider the fact that their manufacturing process was plagued with problems early on in the generation. So I cannot say I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Sony isn't doing a little finger crossing and hoping.

i bought a ps2 fat.
never heard of a ps2 overheating-

my PS2 slim overheated. you just have to leave it on long enough. But as for PS3 overheating, well it does use 2/3 less power right. So i guess we will see.

Less power, smaller parts, it'll be fine. They seem to think its just a normal PS3 in a smaller case. And even the 80GBs use less power and smaller components than the 60GB. They dont know how these things work.

Microsoft NEVER does that, look at everything they release, it's always half assed and then patched back up later.

As for the PS3 slim, just look at it, it really isnt all that much smaller than the normal PS3, especially when you compare the PS2 and PS2 slim. I really doubt there will be overheating, as everything about it is more efficient, but I will agree that there may be concern for overall quality. But nothing on the scale of Microsoft, and if there are problems they will probably be easily fixed.

Well, 1st batch isn't so bad. Just make sure it overheats quickly while your warranty is still intact

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I just got an idea... Since the PS3 has a built-in hard drive, and a video viewer... Why not just make a video on what not to do with a PS3, or any electronic device... like.. don't play it on the carpet?  That way, the idiots that are too lazy to read can SEE and HEAR what not to do..  They already have an online manual, why not a VIDEO manual?...
