my PS2 slim overheated. you just have to leave it on long enough. But as for PS3 overheating, well it does use 2/3 less power right. So i guess we will see.

nintendo forever . . .

Time will tell on the reliability of the PS3 slim.
Common sense should dictate that SCE should have learned from their mistakes with the early PS2 slim and test/re-work appropriately. From what I understand, the reason why many of the PS2 slims overheated is because users were playing with the console resting on carpet, which is probably one of the dumbest things one can do for computer electronics equipment.
The design of the PS3 case alone tells me that the thermal output has been greatly reduced from the last model. Side vents are gone, front vents have been reduced in area. Smaller die process chip sets, lower power consumption = less heat production. Pretty elementary stuff.
If not and the things start to break, one can only assume SCE was trying to imitate the 360's most notorious trademark feature and they deserve to be raked over the coals appropriately.
As for Linux; it's the coolest feature of the PS3 that next to nobody bothered to use.
Only about 35 people had Linux installed on their PS3's anyway.
Second quote is pure speculation.

How do this guys know the PS3 Slim will overheat?
They got time machines?

Sony has only gotten their shit together over the last 6 months or so. If they had their heads on straight this generation, they would be doing a lot better financially and market share wise.
Er.. from all the stuff that could be said, you chose those quotes to say that the slim hate has begun? I mean.. the first one ain't has hate, and it's actually true.. You could say that the second does but it's just a bad thinking which is sort of reasonable, nothing that justifies a thread..
I was intending to install Linux on my PS3, once I'd got a large enough HDD to have plenty of space for Linux and PS3. Oh well it gives something for the Hacking community to do what it loves doing best: figuring out a way to do something with a machine that the manufacturer didn't intend.
@ theARTIST0017 I believe the Slim consumes 1/3 less power, or to put it they way Sony announced it: it consumes about 2/3 the power of the Phat. Important not to get them mixed up.

No doubt Sony wouldn't release trash, but it could be that they pushed development to make the 2009 holiday period. It will still be a good move business-wise as 360's early release also was the basis of it's succes but for the little fanboy quarrel it could be bad news to talk too positive right now. |
No. The Slim PS3 box leaked a longggg time ago. It's been ready for awhile. They actually had to wait awhile for the right time to announce/release it.

lmao wow thats all I gotta say
can't wait for Track Season 2009/2010, guna beast out!
