Clean the dust off.. NOW before the battery fries and you have to buy another one (like me)
its Dust, just blow the dust away, and cover your eyes, the dust is annoying.

<.< It's 2 weeks old...

Seriously, the sticker says "manufactured 7/09"

btw if you leave it alot like this it will heat too much making your battery die faster. so , clean it every month.

Might as well, sure.

I just hope Sony's batteries aren't to blame. It would give a whole new meaning to "fire crotch."

okay if its not dust, then , are you using it on your bed (is it over something that cause heat? IE Blankets , towels ..ect )

get a laptop cooler

Do you think that would be a good idea, since the only intake grill is on the underside of the laptop?

Yes, generally it will help greatly. Any extra cooling fans will cool areas on the bottom that has no outtake for heat but the laptop casing.

maybe you have an 'overclocked' device ?

btw since its 2 weeks old it may still on the warranty.

i was just looking at this a couple of days ago, before i bought my dell studio. having it on your lap could block the fans from venting, so a cooling pad is proly your best bet. and not having it on your lap. you could get them at best buy for around 25, but you can find better deals elsewhere on the nets.

LAPtop.

I thought LAPtops could go on your lap?

(Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm writing them down to try later lol).

@Pullus:

No, usually I'm in my desk chair with it on my lap. My shorts would be the closest thing to a blanket.

@ssj12:

Cool, cool. If after blasting any dist that may be in there and experimenting a bit doesn't work, I'll make sure to pick one up tomorrow.

@ 880user:

If anything is overclocked, it was done by Sony, so I'd think it was tested to be fine. And yeah, it's still under warranty. If heat becomes a problem Sony will be receiving a call

the Vaio FW series is a well made laptop , if those did not work than you should use your warranty.
