Forums - PC - My Laptop Gets Insanely Hot...

Hey guys,

I have a Sony Vaio FW-468 notebook and almost immediately after booting it up (5 minutes), the side vent where the fan pushes out air gets hot. When I say hot, I don't mean "oh...sorta hot," I mean "omg when I touch the vent it burns me!"

Is this normal? The air coming out is easily over 100 degrees just going by my inability to touch it for more than a few seconds. Its a nice lap warmer and all but geez...is something wrong to make it this hot?

I really hope it isn't battery...

Bit silly putting it on your lap ...

1) Are you in a hot area?
2) Are you giving your laptop breathing room for the cooling fan to suck cool air onto the processor?
3) Do you have an insane amount of programs open?

All those three points above can contribute to an insane high temperature laptop.

1.) My room is usually about 78F, so not too cool but not hot either.

2.) The intake fan is on the underside of the laptop *facepalm* and it only has one exit hole on the left side, I suppose the intake being on the fan could be blocked by my thighs...

3.) Usually only 4-5 programs (80 apps total) are open at once.

Do you think that would be a good idea, since the only intake grill is on the underside of the laptop?

i was just looking at this a couple of days ago, before i bought my dell studio. having it on your lap could block the fans from venting, so a cooling pad is proly your best bet. and not having it on your lap. you could get them at best buy for around 25, but you can find better deals elsewhere on the nets.

k, thanks guys. I'll look into cooling pads tonight and hopefully have one by the end of the day tomorrow.

Clean the dust off.. NOW before the battery fries and you have to buy another one (like me)
its Dust, just blow the dust away, and cover your eyes, the dust is annoying.
