Nintendo saw that the games industry was in trouble and decided to recreate gaming once again, now the games industry is railing against it

How exactly was the industry in trouble? 190 + million consoles plus a slew of handhelds, dozens of record breaking games and 10-12 million subscribers to an MMO might disagree, you know.

The industry was (and is) in trouble because of a simple problem... expenses increasing faster than revenues.

They're still making good profits and aren't in nearly as much trouble as the rest of the world. In fact; I'm astounded that the economic crisis hasn't affected the industry more than it has (of course, we can't know the full extent of the impact, but still).

I don't hate Nintendo. I have had every N console since the NES.

This gen they decided to make a console for the physical therapists, the VA hospitals, the old folks homes, the pool halls, the gyms, the schools and after school programs, the Boy's and girl's clubs, the drug and alchohol rehab clinics, and the daycares.

They didn't make this console for me.

That's a really stupid reason. So yeah, it helps those areas, so what? There's plenty of good games out and coming. It's like saying "lol, I don't want to play the PS3 because it can help cure cancer."

sony didn't make the ps3 for folding@home

My point in that post was that I belong to none of those groups, and the games that are directed towards people belonging to those groups, aren't the kind of games I play.

I'm not saying they are bad games. Mario party is a good game, and so is mario kart, and wii sports, but they are geared towards groups play. There are single-player aspects, but in that respect they are a lot like tacked on multiplayer in some single player games.

EDIT: also, movement just isn't that important for me. I played tiger woods and really liked it, but I don't need movement to play. Movement is important for some of the groups i mentioned, and that is one of the main reasons that some of these groups use them. But to me movement isn't the most important part of a wii game like it is for the groups that Nintendo is targeting.

ive always liked nintendo, with the SNES all the gameboys and the Gamecube.
but i didnt like what they did with the wii, i wasnt impressed with the the wii remote because it felt like it was literally worth 10 cents and more importantly, i didnt enjoy the games with it. out of wii sports i only liked boxing.
so thats why i dont like the wii, THIS IS ALL MY OPINION.

Sony and MS have lost money on their consoles, only Nintendo makes healthy profits, other gaming companies are either dying out or merging into massive behemoths to survive, this is not the sign of a healthy industry.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Interesting point about the DS brought up, but i disagree with psrock about it being one of the most loved consoles around.

Here's a thought though, maybe this all has something to do with certain games. I am of course referring to Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc; fans primarily of the other console makers or other specific franchises may be tired and angry of these titles swooping down and taking the world by storm. Look how long Ocarina of Time has been on top, i'm pretty sure more than a few people would argue against its position, Metroid Prime was the highest rated game last gen and Mario Galaxy is on top this gen (tied with GTA4 i'm sure).

I'm not saying this is the absolute reason but it might contribute to the hatred. I myself can't think of any other reason for why some knock on Twilight Princess, Galaxy and Corruption

We must live in a different planet, because over here I see a lot of publishers with negative income, and studios closing due to high expenses and the crisis...

I think it has more to do with their hatred with Nintendo because they are secretive and refuse to conform.

Ah, I would say conforming is the issue. Nintendo doesn't make games that are truly hard (refusing to count Fire Emblem) or bloody (true, but a meaningless complaint). They don't adopt arbitrary standards (the cart was legit, but not making an XBL or PSN clone). They don't do exactly what the press wants, while Sony and Microsoft have been doing that.

Basically I say the last part is most important. It's not that Nintendo is unfriendly to the press. It's that they don't make the press feel like they are running the industry while the gaming press thinks Sony and Microsoft are letting them actually run the show.
