Forums - Nintendo - Namco: Wii can't handle Tekken 6, PSP can.

Here's a quote from IGN's Guilty Gear XX Wii review.

"But using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck is terrible. Accent Core is a member of a long line of extremely fast 2D fighters, and you don't use motion controls for those types of games. It just doesn't work. The only way to get around it is to use the buttons instead, which means that you use the joystick to move (which is tragically inaccurate, especially when dashing) and the Wii Remote's D-Pad for inputting attacks. Left, down, up and right are punch, kick, slash and heavy slash, respectively. No. This will not work either. It's uncomfortable and clumsy, and it ruins the game.

On the other hand, using the motion controls is almost worse, because it not only throws the accuracy of your interface completely out the window, but it starts damaging the actual fighting mechanics, too. For example, swinging the Wii Remote lightly will execute a slash attack, while swinging it fiercely will do a heavy slash (how are we to execute advanced combos like that?). And to do Special Moves, you hold down either C or Z and swing the Wii Remote or the Nunchuck. That's it. The techniques that should take time and skill can be accomplished by waving your hands.

The default controls are terrible, and truly ruin a fun experience. If you have the Classic Controller though, you're basically getting the PS2 experience which is a great time."

Score: 5.9

Tekken 6 on Wii would be the exact same situation. They could make a Wii version, but it would get slammed by reviewers and probably sell <500k. Would it really be worth it?

1. Screw the reviews. They only gave GTA 10 because they thought it would be the salvation of hardcore gaming (not claiming it's bad, from all accounts it's an 8 or 9 on its own merits).

2. Unless the game cost loads of money, it would still make a hefty profit selling nearly half a million.

Kylei, do some fucking math. $50 for Wii versions is less than $60 with the inclusion of the system prices. And with the recession, this is even more of a problem.

So can it.

Plus another 30 dollars for a controller that you can use to play the game on the Wii... What Kylie said is spot on.

So.....one fighting game that has poor controls is suddenly representative of every one that will come out on the Wii from now on?

The CC is $20. And it's not spot on. It's bs that console fanboys invented in the 16-bit wars. It wasn't true then, and pretending it's true now just makes you ignorant.

50+20 = 70, making it more expensive than the 60 you mentioned for a copy of the game on 360 or PS3. Got any more recession busting tips?!

Why do so many people keep saying "Buy another console"? Would I really want to shell out 200-300 dollars for a handful of other games I might be interested in?

I'd rather developers start making games for my Wii, a console I already own (good ones, so they might actually sell), or, at least, say why they've really skipped out on the Wii.

So buy a PS3 or 360.

This argument is old. How many times must the Wii get looked over or given some spin-off game before people stop complaining and just go buy a console that gets what they want?

Is like buying a PS3 then complaining it doesn't get any Metroid games.

You're missing the point.

Lack of Metroid games on HD systems : Nintendo IP

Lack of Tekken on Wii : Supposedly system incompetence (while PS1 and PS2 handled Tekken just fine and sold millions)

What's funny is that Wii only owners bitch incessantly about not getting games like this, but when they do get anything besides Mario or a party game, they don't even go buy it.

I see this argument brought up like every other day. What games are you talking about deadt0m?

Every single non first party game that isn't a party game and doesn't involve a plastic guitar.  Go find me the million-sellers on Wii that are third party action/fighting etc. games.

Conduit:  220k.

Mad World: 280k.

Punch Out: 510k. (and that is first party)

I'm too lazy to keep looking, but the only truly successful fighting game on Wii is brawl.  Every single million seller on Wii is either first party, a party game, or a music game.

First of all, nice try to derail the topic.
Second, you have to learn how to troll properly, and not seem desperate.

Proving a troll wrong is rather easy and comes with a report as a bonus:

Third Party million selling games that don't fall in those categories you mentioned

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Tiger Woods PGA 08
Resident Evil: The Umbrealla Chronicles
Shawn White Snowboarding: Road Trip
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Call of Duty: World at War
Red Steel
Call of Duty 3
We Ski
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09
The House of the Dead 2 & 3: Return
Ben 10 Protector of Earth
Pro Evolution Soccer 08
Sonic Unleashed
LEGO Batman: The Videogame
FIFA 08
Boom Blox

And I left out some you would instantly discard because they would be too casual. You lose.

What did you expect? This is typical developer-baw: they can't have their precious graphics and they're too scared to drive their gameplay forward by using motion, so they make up crap like this.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

"50+20 = 70, making it more expensive than the 60 you mentioned for a copy of the game on 360 or PS3."

Wrong. I mentioned the costs of those systems as well. Try to actually read a point before you try to counter it.

"Apparently Namco found it to be less cost effective then making a PSP version of the game."

Where is it apparent? They did not say that here? It's not what the OP is calling on them for.
