Forums - Sony - Why are the press so anti-PS3?

I don't think it's the press who are anti-PS3. It's the public, and I can't really blame them. Sony's now seen as arrogant and elitist, compared to Nintendo, who's seen as friendly and inclusive. Sony is to Nintendo in the console business what, say, Microsoft is to Apple in the computer industry.

I say it's the press showing their true colors. If they wait until sales figures come out, they may look stupid. I guess the best they can do is give a history lesson, rather than focusing on what's happening now. The average non-fanboy consumer goes to the store and sees the price, the features, benefits, and costs of each one, the game library, and makes a decision on that.

I remember all the Blu-ray Doom and Gloom articles before Black Friday 2008. The week before, there were like 20 of them or something to stop consumers from buy Blu-ray players and movies. The week after, they disappeared because the format was establishing itself as the standard.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Why isn't this statement repeated a thousand times in this thread? I said it, yojohn said it, who else wants to?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Seriously. It seems that someone decided trolling the PS3 was the way to go, since trolling the 360 gives him away at this point.

Great article, the media and all these goofy writers should show more respect to Sony, they probably wouldn't be making a living off writing about games if it wasn't the Playstation!

Yeah, gaming wouldn't exist without the Playstation! Give me a break.

1. Sony tried to sell a $599 console.
2. Sony lost many of its exclusives, some as high profile as GTA, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, DMC and Tekken. And yet they expect us to pay $599 (now $299 finally) for their console.
3. Their first/second party isn't up to standards. Nintendo could afford to lose third party support cause they had Mario, Zelda, RARE, Star Fox, etc. etc. to fall back on. Sony's first/second party is just average.
4. Their lies and propaganda and false hype.
5. Them always trying to force their new worthless technology on us. The CELL and Blu-ray put the pS3 to astronomical prices and delayed the system relentlessly. Not to mention making it complicated to work on.

You would have been better of without some of this nonsense you posted. Have you got proof that Blu-ray was worthless? Your assessment of their 1st/2nd party studis/games is your opinion. The rest of the industry, thankfully, doesn't seem to agree with it.

The PS3's first/second party games are average at the most - at least not worth it to pay $300 for the console. Sony is the complete opposite of MS and Nintendo (who both have franchises that could keep them alive with ease - Sony has nothing).

And Blu-ray is worthless, optical discs are on their way out and it pushed the PS3 to cost $599 in the beginning, and what benefits? Yeah, so we don't have to switch discs.... I'd rather switch discs than go through 40 minute installs. Seriously. Metal Gear Solid 4 would've been better on 2 or 3 discs (original MGS was on 2 discs anyways), rather than watching Snake smoke and messages for 20 minutes.

I can see this is hopeless. You believe your stuff to be facts, which they're not. I'll refrain from furtering this, but just remember: TO EACH HIS OWN...

Carry on...

Apparently people agree cause PS3 games (and the PS3 itself) are dusting up at stores. Third parties made Sony (Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Tekken made the PS1 popular, GTAIII, MGS2, Final Fantasy X made the PS2 popular), and now that almost all the major third party games belong to Microsoft now the PS3 has nothing.

OMG epic fail post of the milenium

wow, this statement saved my time i would waist on some crappy fanboy rant. 2-3 articles against sony and it already is "showing no respect?". without nintendo and their consoles there wouldn't be any games since they made gaming industry from scratch after 1983 - sony only copied nintendo and bought their way out to the top by moneyhating publisher and developers. yet nintendo was the one who actually always made a progress in gaming industry from controllers, handhelds, services to whole genres of games. sony did nothing and yet nintendo always ends up with all the hate.
