Forums - Gaming - PS3 Slim, Wii, Xbox 360 size comparisons

@ crashdown, nobody would have got a 360 in a beauty contest, the women would have got the Wii, but most of the men would have gone for the PS3, I think it is the best piece of electrical hardware that I own, only the iPod touch and future PSP go could come close

Yeah, not quite sure how you expect the PS3 slim to get to PS2 slim size when it's got an HDD inside. The one way to reduce the size further by a substantial amount is external power brick. Do that and it could almost start rivaling Wii for size.

PS3 wins in one department at least, it's the best looking console out of the 3. Be it Phat or Slim, they both blow the looks of the others away. Too bad the console wars aren't a beauty contest.

I guess you don't realize how small a HDD can be.

I can easily find space in a PS2 Slim to slide in an iPod hard drive, and they have those at both significant amounts of storage space AND operating speeds. Additionally, they're not necessarily that terribly expensive, but it WOULD effectively prevent expandability, since mini HDDs are difficult to find.

A "PS3 Ultra Slim" would still be rather easily doable, considering they could remove the power converter and put in a mini HDD, then just shrink whatever else they can. With the right mechanics, PS3 can be made just as small as PS2 Slim.

I guess I am going by my expreiences. I have my white 360 in the living room because the gal likes the Netflix, but when I brought up putting the PS3 out there she made a face and said "But it's just. . . so. . . big.  . ." Thankfully I have the man cave.  Also, the console that most closely resembles both the iPod touch and the PSP go would be the Wii, looks wise, it would still clearly be the winner. And to me the 360 has much nicer lines than the PS3. So maybe I was being biased, I'm just going by general impressions I have seen from casuals like my fiancee.

Nobody seems to mind that the 360 in that pic is sodomizing that PS3 Slim?

I could tell Slim was still large just by looking at it compared to the original PS3.

Makes me wonder if they're going to try an Ultra Slim model to finally shrink it to the PS2 Slim's size.

I think that's inevitable.

I just don't see what you guys are saying as a viable option.

OT: Should have put the power brick in there for better comparison.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's inevitable, but after thinking about it, I'd at least call it extremely likely.

I'm going to wager that they're going to release the Micro/Ultra Slim shortly prior to/after the release of the PS4. Probably in the spring after the PS4's launch.

The power supply/brick/whatever is still internal in the slimline PS3.  If/when they take that out in a newer model and just gave you a power brick on the cord, they could achieve much more slimness along with whatever other changes they might make.
