It's not really AVGN that I like, it's more what James Rolfe can come up with in his videos. He created this character that reviews old games and he has such a nerdy personality. I wouldn't want to be his friend, but still, he's dedicated about games and it shows (the character I mean)! xD
Some of the things he says about those old games are true (you can see how development of games changed since then), but at the same time he intentionally sucks at some of them because that's how the character is! He swears as well because that's his trademark. You see many people trying to copy his style but it comes out bad more than anything. Don't laugh about the swearing in itself, laugh at how the character is so much into games that he would freak out about them sometimes! I believe it reflects the feelings of many gamers out there too.
The highlights are obviously the Ghostbusters games, NES accessories and Back to the Future reviews. Some of the new ones like Terminator are also very good. When he keeps his old style, you know it's pure fun to watch.
Last thing, don't hate on him because he's popular.
