WHO KNEW! the 306 site is the only one that says the following...

1.) GoWIII isnt good

2.) MAG Sucks

3.) GT5 and Forza 3 are quite close in Quality...

Every respectable website says this...

2b.) M.A.G. Though not Graphically Stellar, is a great change of pace.

There are easily half a dozen major non aligned game conferences a year. Plus the special events that the manufacturers host themselves at their studios for the press. Plus the required amount of non event announcements that must be made through the coarse of the year. The reality is that no manufacturer can possibly dominate them all. So they have to choose where they will be fat, and where they will be lean.

Microsoft chose to be fat at E3 their conference was spectacular in the amount of new hardware, games, and software shown. Sony chose to make their biggest announcement of the year at the follow up conference. The smaller less known conference. No I am not ragging on Europe, but E3 was impressivly covered, and was even televised. Basically it was the biggest event of the year.

Honestly I think both made a pretty solid move on their conference plans. Microsoft went for the extravaganza at the biggest event. While Sony chose to dominate a smaller event which allowed their big news to be the only real news. I see no reason to rag on either. Just as I would see no reason to rag on either at the Tokyo Game Show. You want proof as to why its hard to balance where to make your announcements look no further then the ODST announcement. That was a real odd one last year. In a market not known for its love of first person shooters. Why did that happen well with square filling the allotment for E3 someone had to be slid back.

^Though post E3 most said that Sony and MS shows was a draw of slight win of MS. I get what you're saying, but its not like Sony didnt have a huge E3 aswell, just not quite the megaton that GamesCom was. But again, i get what you're saying..

To be honest I really felt bad for Sony at E3. They got fucked royally thanks to a piss poor time slot. They followed up right after Nintendo, and that was like one of the worst warm up acts of all time. Either Nintendo had you pissed, or plain bored to tears. Either way those watching were going to be far more critical, and Sony didn't do themselves any favors going for the slow burn.

So a lot of what hurt Sony was the fact that Nintendo performed so poorly. Honestly I cannot hold Nintendo responsible however for its impact on Sony. The truth is drafting has advantages, and it has disadvantages. One of those disadvantages is if the lead guy kicks up crap your going to get painted in it. Yes even the time you hold your show matters, because it does matter to your viewer.

Next year Sony should do anything to avoid being anywhere near Nintendo when they do their conference. Hell they should try to get on another day entirely. More importantly they should try to get on before Nintendo. I agree with the sentiment that neither Sony of Microsoft put on a bad show. The one that really stunk up the joint was Nintendo.

I strongly believe GOTY 2009 will be Assassin's Creed II. It's gonna be so great.
