Amazon is a bad place to use to determine sales trends because most people do not buy something online when they can walk into a store to buy it, and Amazon in the past has sold more items than it has confirmed (pending) inventory. Smaller games often do fairly well on Amazon because major retailers may not accept pre-orders on them, and systems regularly do better because most retailers only allow pre-orders on a portion of their expected shipments (sometimes as little as 50%) and this drives potential buyers to Amazon who has in the past sold far more than their expected shipment.
