XD at the "Great lineup" Hardly games tyhat would make me want to rush out and buy a slim. I see only one game in your puny list that interests me, and believe me, I am not buying a second, overpriced console to play one game.

Irony. Some great trolling from a proud member of the Loyalty Free Gaming Movement!

Irony is, I was not trolling. Believe me when I say I would not mind owning a PS3, but the "great linup" that the OP cited, along with the fact the the PS3 is overpriced, and all the games that I would want to play (save a few) are multiplat. I'm not bashing the PS3, just the OP.

How is the ps3 overpriced? The fact its one of the best blu-ray players on the market already makes it worth $299

If I need a blueray player, I will go pick up a dedicated one for $130.00 The PS3 is not top of the line anymore, it's outdated. Also, BR isn't everything. Until Sony runs a price drop, I will not be buying a PS3...unless somebody has a used one in good condition.

You live in the US.  The ps3 is now $299, the same price as the current Pro 360, and soon to be Elite 360.  It comes with a comparable games line up and three features the 360 doesn't have - a Blu-ray player, built in wi-fi, and free online play.

Chances are you paid $299 or more for your 360, unless you went with the Arcade.  If you did go with the Arcade, that'd add one more item to the list of things the ps3 has that the 360 (rather, your 360) doesn't.  How is the ps3 overpriced but the 360 not in your little scenario?

Dude, I don't have a HiDef TV anymore. And even if I did, I have no Blueray discs...nor will I buy any till they come down in price...so the blueray player is just meh to me right now. Built in WiFi? I'm not an idiot, I will NEVER play over Wifi...so once again, unecesary. The free online play doesn't have any of my friends (none of them have a PS3) Netflix, crossgame chatting, nor will it have the Facebook, Twitter(I don't care so much about that one), or Last.FM apps (Not the shoddy PSN browser versions but actual apps made specifically for them). So, basically, what I am trying to say is, even spending the $38.99 for 13 months of live, it's a better value for ME. And the other "extras" on the PS3 are not something I would kill to have.  Also, the game lineup, only a few exclusives get me excited, and even MOST of these can be one upped by the 360 exclusives.

Also, What makes you think I would buy a pro? I would buy the Arcade version, then buy a used 20GB HD for less that $20 bucks, Buy new 360 controlers for 25 bucks, and a HDMI cable (once I got my HD TV) for $5.00

So, My price tag (if I were buying everything again) would be

$199.00 Arcade

$25 x 4 for controllers

$20.00 for a 20GB HD (Another $60 and a simple hack if  Iwanted to upgrade to a 120GB HD)

and $5.00 for an HDMI cable (assuming I now have a HD TV)

My total (without the 120GB HD) = $324.00

Plus the entire Halo series (yes I am a Halo slut), Gears of War series, and Mass Effect series...sorry, but right now, the 360 holds a better value for me.

Disclaimer: I know this is not the case with everybody since some people don't like or need the things that the 360 offers, but reading what I posted there, I'm sure you can see why I think the PS3 is overpriced.

Wait, we can throw used goods into this discussion?  In that case, you'll probably be able to get a used ps3 for around $200 after the Slim hits.  That's the same price as an Arcade!  Boosh!

Honestly, you had to do an awful lot of work right there to make the ps3 look overpriced compared to the 360 given the current state of things.  ;)

Anyway, it doesn't matter if the ps3 holds little value for you.  Just because something is a bad value for you doesn't mean it's overpriced.    For example, I can't stand McDonald's chicken niggets.  I'd never order them, but I don't think they're too expensive for what they are.  It's a pretty good deal for those that like them.  I just can't stand them.

PS3 ain't overpriced anymore, baby.

"EEDAR is pleased to see that the PlayStation 3 has finally dropped in price. The new PlayStation 3 pricing scheme finally makes the Sony console a much more competitive product, relative to its closest rival, the Xbox 360. In terms of value, the PlayStation 3 is a superior hardware product in comparison to the Xbox 360; however, this is not to suggest that hardware sales will suddenly shift to Sony’s favor—a superior hardware system is only one variable in the equation for next-generation success. Nevertheless, the PlayStation 3 price cut will act as a positive catalyst that will close the sales gap between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  This price drop also places the PlayStation 3 at a competitive price to the Wii (retail MSRP $249)..."

Hey genious, the only thing that was used on my list was a HD. the rest is all new, I just shop smart. Also, if you want to quote the used console, I can buy a used arcade WITH the HD for around $90...so that would bring the total cost down to $195.00.

Also, The PS3 is overpriced for this gen. It is the most expensive consle that offers little over the competition. What it does offer, is not that important to the mainstream consumer. Imagine where this "console race" would be right now if the PS3 had started out at the price it is now? Do you honestly think MS would stand a chance? I don't think they would. But Sony had to add all the extras to their console, and sell it at a huge pricetag, is it any wonder that people who don't really care about Blu-ray, WiFi, and free sub par onlineplay are buying the Wii and the 360?

@iBlah, I had something to say about your last post...but it would come off looking extremely trollish (which is not my intent here), so, just read my above paragraph. I think it answers your question.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

but being expensive does not mean it has to be overpriced, if it already been sold at a less value than its basic production cost then technically its "underpriced" if anything. plus the real value of the console is determined by each individiual customers, if you don't like the game on a console then it's really worth nothing to you, but some other people might still find it worth the purchase, its too subjective to say ps3 is overpriced based on your personal preference, I'm not convinced.

You wouldn't be...

The PS3 has extras that just don't matter to the consumer,  in comparison to the other two consoles, yes, it is overpriced. If you knew anything about the market you would understand that profit loss does NOT = underpriced goods. Rather, profit loss = too few products sold. You see, if the PS3 cost less to make, Sony could sell it at a lower cost, and they would sell more of them. As I'm sure you know, the initial manufactoring costs are generally high, but over time, the manufactoring costs shrink, the more products you sell, the more the costs shrink, and the more profit you turn. So, Sony made a huge blunder in that they included WiFi and a Blu-ray player in the PS3 Neither of which are trhat important to the average consumer, and both of which raised manufacturing prices. The WiFi probably didn't raise it that much, but the Blu-Ray player would have.

so... back to the basic of whether we are ready for "it" or not huh? I guess you had a point about market reaction. Again I still believe the real value of a console is determined by its games, call me a d**khead but I burrow movies from a friend of mine who is a master of downloading free dvd quality movies ( lol....?!) blue ray doesn't really appeal to me in anyway but I just happen to like Sony's first party exclusives better, and the WiFi. We'll have to wait and see how consumers react to price cut and new games then.

Being overpriced has nothing to do with value, it has to do with current market prices. The recent price drop of the PS3 puts it where it should have been to begin with.
