Sony will release PSP Go and PS3 slim soon. Those being manufactured now were pure loss untill they sold them just recently. They don't have R&D on those anymore either. I think profitability is looking up for them. I doubt the 1250 figure thesourcew quoted were accurate.

Well, PSPGo probably is being sold with nice profit, Sony wouldn't be stupid to sell a handheld for a loss, this is why it's so expensive in release. Well, PS2 is still selling with profit and PS3 incomes with PSN publicity, downloads, Home, movies, software and etc should grow for now. Don't worry SCE will be just fine, they lost all this money with ps3 itself but they'll have it back with PS4 being profitable in release.

PS3 profit is in a different source. It was meant to push Blu-ray out and kill HDDVD.

The PS3 was meant to win like the PS2 and push blu-ray. No company would sacrifice a (previous) winning brand like that just to kill a competing format. That's insane. Sony thought they could do both. They thought wrong.

When you can't win both, you still win 1. That's still a win.

Not if the net profit is a negative. I doubt Blu-Ray will ever make up for the PS3's losses - not talking monetarily only but also in loss of brand value, third party support and marketshare.

They'll never earn back what they've lost on PS3.
