it will probably give PS3 sales a boost for a month or 2 and at xmas

lifetime, the PS3 has a very small (almost negligeble) chance of catching the 360

I think PS3 has a fair chance of eventually catching the 360, with their 10-year plan.

Only if they choose NOT to react...but M$ has been anticipating this move since Early this year, and in fact expected it in Spring, so I'm sure they are going to announce there bombshell news as well.  I don't know what they have in-store, but methinks it's going to be significant

Serious_frusting, I think you're being unrealistic. People don't seem to quite grasp how far ahead the 360 is.

I'm too tired to do calculations right now, but if I recall correctly (which I might not), I believe that the PS3 would have to outsell the 360 by 120k each week for 2 years to even catch up to it, much less pass it.

Either way, I'm sure the price cut and the slim will have a noticeable impact on sales. It won't pass the Wii or the 360 lifetime though, although it might pass the 360 temporarily.

im just making sure people dont get carried away, the price cut is a good move for the PS3, it is not the holy grail, it wont reverse the order this generation, but it may allow Sony to reduce (perhaps significantly) the defecit of the PS3 to the 360, between now and the end of the generation.
