Forums - Sales - Can PS3 take the Japanese holiday season?

If FF13 is released maybe. Then it will be NSMB and Wii Fit Plus vs FF13

Around the Network

It has FFXIII and a lower price. Of course it is.

Prediction:

TGS this year for PS3 will be amazing.

Grandia comes to PSN(PSone classic).

First Versus gameplay this year.

The Adventures Of Duane and Brando

No just because of a price drop it won't do anything.

The whole year people were begging for a cheaper PS3 and now a price drop won't do anything?!!!!!!!

No actually a price drop will do the job but only for the first 2-3 weeks and even in the first 2-3 weeks it won't outsell wii especially cause of MP Trilogy and the after like 3 weeks its weekly sales will lower from the hype and all but still be higher than the regular weekly sales before the slim and price cut... so basically the price cut and slim hype won't carry over into the holidays and even if it did with NSMBWii would crush it.... and don't think i am fanboy or anything cause sony is really great especially with ps2 but Mario just tops all especially with 4 player co-op....JUST ask ROLSTOPPABLE!!!!

Please, realise that the Internet contains multiple people, with different opinion, and different levels of reasoning.

Probably you won't be able to quote Aion, (or me), saying such things, because we had different opinions.

There was always a mass of people who keep parotting supposedly business-savy terms like "disruption", "casual/hardcore demographic", "attachment rates", and most recently "price cut", while a minority of others had their logical reasons to believe that the price cut will or will not have a long-term effect.

I'm not sure the whole year people were begging for a cheaper PS3 in Japan... When was the last time a price cut make a big difference in Japan?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I ain't saying FFXIII will sell more units of software than NSMB but it for sure will move more hardware....

Most people who bought a PS3 probably bought it early for FF13. Most "hardcore" gamers do this for all systems. I even bought a Wii becuase Brawl was going to be on it.

The fact that the FFXIII demo last April managed to sell 60k or so PS3 tends to invalidate this..

I believe there is still a decent number of FFXIII fans that haven't purchased a PS3...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

yes there are decent number of FFXIII fans that haven't bought the ps3 yet and that number maybe be still growing cause of ads and trailers and etc but the point here is that FFXIII will sell well and move HW but it will be in direct competion with NSMBWii and this is the first mario game with 4 player co-op so it will be bigger and better and so will move more wii's than FFXIII will move ps3's.... Also there tatsunoku vs capcom (may have spelled wrong) which is also a huge title in japan ( i think tatsunoku comes in 09 correct me if i am wrong) so i believe that the wii is still cheaper and has a better line up of games that japenese people like than ps3

Oh my, then I must be wrong.

Really, it's good for a demo to move that much, but we must consider how this will translate into hardware sold for the final release. These 60k bought it then, so those wont be clumped later. Then, we must wonder who will buy the game. How well will it sell?

Looking at the trend, not as much as some hoped. FF7 is the best selling followed by 8 then 10. 12 sold under 3 million. This is also on the large user base of the PS2. The PS3 has a much smaller fan base and trends are showing that people are moving away from Final Fantasy. My expectation is that it will sell really well week 1. It will push hardware slighty. Everyone will claim this as a second coming. The next week will be a sharp decline and the thrid week will be the same as before the game's release. NSMB Wii has a change to move units in the long term. FF13 will only make a short lived movement. Expect everything to go downhill from there.
