Forums - Sony - Why are the Metal Gear villains so awesome.. yet so stupid?

screming mantis was pwned by her own weapon, why didn't she just hold the dolls in her hand or insert them into her armor so they won't fall off that easily??

"Why is metal gear so awesome....yet so stupid"

I don't know how anyone can take these games even halfway seriously, they are hilariously bad B movie quality shows. I don't know how many facepalms I've given playing this series. I really like the series, I own the whole series, but my god it's so stupid.

I mean in MGS3 in the first half hour or so, Somebody in the 1960s takes a nuke out of a brief case, launches it from a shoulder mounted rocket launcher, from nearby helicopter, and watches the nuke go off from the helicopter, and then flies off. HOW MANY THINGS ARE WRONG WITH THAT SCENE?

This, I love the games but the story is ridiculous a lot of times and full of plot holes, which makes it very sad when people claim it's the best VG story ever.

I won't argue with you that the story of these games is sometimes ridiculous, but what, in your opinion, makes 'the best VG story ever'? Does it really have to be a 'realistic story' to be good? Besides, what is a good story? Doesn't that also have to do with personal preference?

I'm not saying MGS games have the best VG stories ever, but the great thing about MGS, at least for me, is that cinematic feeling, the storytelling, the tons of interesting characters with their own storie and motivations, the conspiracies...AND of course the humor and gameplay. And yes, even how ridiculous the story of MGS games sometimes can be, i love the story in these games. It's an interesting mix of conspiracy-theories and science-fiction in real world settings.

You're right, I phrased that wrong, it has everything to do with personal preferences.  I was just recalling threads on here that said in 20 years college courses would study the MGS story the same way classic literature is studied today, and the fact that if someone, somehow, did not like the MGS story, then they either must be a fanboy, or not know anything about what makes a good story, b/c HK is, of course, a genius.

All villains are stupid. I hate it when the bad guys can kill the good guys so easily but choose not to and instead toy around. I'd like to see a villain in anything where they just show no mercy. If they can go in for the kill, they go for it.

You have to start watching things besides shounen anime and playing things that aren't JRPGs.

One thing that always bothered me about the idea of RAYs protecting Arsenal Gear is that it wouldn't work. If someone knew where Arsnal Gear was and had a REX, they could just launch a completely invisible nuke from thousands of mies away and wipe it out regardless.

good point, why even bother to try "counter" something that can lauch a nuke?

^that's my point. there are so many weird things that the villains do.

the only 'smart' villain really was ocelot. until the end of the series you really don't know who he's working for.

Sadly this exists in a lot of movies and tv shows as well. It bugs me too lol, it doesn't make sense but hey it's just a game.

Watch Dragonball Z again, it has millions of fans and is a great show but the plot gets twisted up at times and
makes you wonder "Why?"

But in the end you just gotta remember that it is only to try make the story more interesting, which is exactly what it does.

Bad guys always talk big but end up coming short in the end. I'd like to see a villain that spends more time killing and keeps his mouth shot. Why do they always have to tell you their motives before killing you? I know that it is so you understand the story but it's just unrealistic.

One thing I've always wondered about FF7 is how on earth a failed clone and terrible member of soldier was able to defeat a guy who is relatively a God by himself...and bahamut too (in advent children)...what gives?
