Forums - Nintendo - What is Shigeru Miyamato's net worth?

@thekitchensink
That is awesome and actually gives me some hope for humanity. I don't know where all of you are from, but here in America most everyone feels that they are entitled to everything under the sun.

Fucking hell! I was planning on putting that down when I saw the thread title.

I'm certain Miyamoto is paid very well, but that he is also very aware that what he wants out of life and his career would not be well suited by looking to make the most money possible ...

As a guess, I would expect that Miyamoto has probably been approached by every major publisher and all of the console manufacturers at some point in his life and offered an obscene ammount of money to work for them; and yet I suspect that he was fully aware that none of them can match what he truely values about his position at Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft would never have let Miyamoto influence their hardware to make systems like the Wii or the Nintendo DS, and almost no publisher in the world would have allowed products like Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Brain Training, Nintendogs, and so on be produced.

You can't find many humble people in this world. Good thing he was, makes him much more respectable.

I didn't entirely get the answer to my own question, but apparently he refuses to take a higher salary than the other developers at Nintendo, and rides his bicycle to work everyday. Talk about dedication.

I did a biography on him once, and you're absolutely right.  He's been offered the ridiculous kinds of salaries that you'd expect him to have, but he refuses to take a higher paycheck than the likes of, say, Reggie or Iwata.  And he does, indeed ride his bike!

How you can remain so humble when you basically gave $100 billion/year industry its jumpstart AND created its most recognizable characters and franchises is beyond me.  The man has a small house, in the crowded streets of Kyoto, and his hobbies include gardening and breeding his dog.  He's so famous, and by rights should be filthy rich, yet he chooses the mundane lifestyle in lieu of some assuming mansion or something.  It's why he's my idol and role model.

Knowing this, I have even more respect for the man; and I had quite a lot already.

I'll say that he's friggin loaded

360 Games Now Playing   360 Games unopened:  Resonance of Fate  Last 360 Game I Beat: Resident Evil 5

DS Games Now Playing: Dragon Quest VI  DS Games unopened Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian Odyssey III, Okamiden, Dragon Quest IX Last DS Game I beat: Radiant Historia

Wii Games Now Playing  Super Mario Galaxy 2, Arc Rise Fantasia  Wii  Games unopened  Little King's Story, Sonic Colors, Silent Hill Shattered Memories Last Wii Game I beat: Sin & Punishment 2

In fact, I read in a interview some time ago that he goes to work riding his bike every day. And this was a problem in terms of security. Nintendo advised Miyamoto to go by car, but he refused to do that.

I don't think a God have much need of money

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

According to wiki, Michael Jackson sold over 750M records worldwide which is lower than the combined number of games with Mario, Pokemon, Wii..., Zelda, Donkey Kong, Ndogs, Smash Bros, Yoshi, Wario in the title.

Taking into account the retail price of a game compared with a single or album, if he wanted to he'd probably be as rich as Elvis or MJ or maybe 3/4 of the Beatles.
