Forums - Gaming - 10 men who changed the gaming industry forever....

Also, at those saying that Kutaragi doesn't deserve to be there, remember this.
The playstation was sony's first console. It was also the first console to sell 100million units. It dominated the Nintendo 64 without the name brand of nintendo.
The playstation 2 was sony's second console, it also sold over 100million units, toping at 136m. It had a shelf life of 10 years, the playstation 1 had a shelf life of 11 years.

Please do not downgrade the importance of Mr Kutaragi, and don't act like the playstation wasn't as amazingly successful as it was.

Also, the Nintendo 64 and the Nintendo Gamecube, in terms of sales, are set to be bigger failures than the playstation 3. The PS3 has already outsolde the gamecube.

digitalentourage: I think most people are complaining more about him being 1st, than him being in the list.

but it was not a list of order of importance, it was just 10 people who were influential.

i am also puzzled to why the love of Ted Price suddenly came out, he have kickass games and have one of the best places to work in. but he didn't do anything new.

Resistance been done before
Ratchet and Clank been done before
Spyro been done before
Distruptor been done before.

not saying they are bad games mind you

I would prefer the head of Naughty Dog be there. Naughty Dog are one of the only developers to have never made a game that was not a hit.

and did i mention i hate these top ten lists they always bring out fanboys and also did i mention that Miyamoto is a bit overrated. he keeps making the same games he made years ago and if you have a character that long of course everyone will notice.

The Wii series is among the most popular games in video game history. Which other new IPs this generation come even remotely close to this kind of influence?

Oh right, Nintendogs.

@digitalentourage: You are really a funny guy, although you may not intend to be one.

to me miyamoto is just about making simple FUN(yes i know this is why you like him)  games for simple gamers its great idea but he doesn't risk anything to move the industry forward... (please dont tell me Wii music,  that is just a little child's Rockband.)

he is like the popular pop star that is so popular around people but doesn't really do anything new other than being a popular person who have alotta fangirls/boys

i think if people can stop praising Miyamoto over and over than the world would stop turning, so i'll just leave it as it is.

to me people like David Cage deserve it more than Miyamoto , why ? because they risk it all to make it "different"

I remember the outcries when Wii Fit was shown for the first time. If that isn't taking a risk to make it "different", then I don't know what to say anymore. Miyamoto was also majorly involved in designing the Wii controller, but I guess this doesn't count, because it didn't move the industry forward.

@digitalentourage: You entirely missed the point. I wasn't saying what I said because of the additional people you suggested, but because you said that you agree with all the reasons why the other people were put on the list which includes stuff like Sony still being one of the most profitable video game companies after losing almost $4 billion in the last three years.

"one of the"

sony is still reaping the benefits of two generations of Nintedo Wii like dominance, while still being in here with those losses.

Wii fit isn't new back then, but it made popular.

there were a few fitness games last gen. so he wasn't "different" by announcing wii fit.

@ digitalentourage
Kutargi does belong on this list, Myomoto should be 1 though! There is zero change I would be playing video games today if I had not gotten hooked with my NES and Mario!!

@parauds
Myomoto comes out with new games every generation, he came out with Pikmin last generation. What happens at E3 when new Mario and Zelda games are not shown? The first question is always what is the status on the next Mario and Zelda games. Nintendo and Myomoto know that once we have beaten a Mario or Zelda game a few times we are ready for the next game in the series. If Myomoto spent all of his time making new ips we would not get the quality and consistency that we get from his gems. The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker was an amazing game, but people bitched and moaned about changing the graphical style of the game. When this happens Myomoto can not take to many risks with his games. This generations I will take Mario Galaxy over anything on my ps3 any day of the week!!

I stopped reading after they said Nobuo Uematsu is the "John Williams" of game music.

That title belongs to Koji Kondo, who has composed some of the most recognizable themes across any form of media.

Recognizable is not the same as best, Uematsu is better than Kondo, but I agree Kondo is more influential and his songs are sticky.
