Ok so I got a chance to play it today thinking it was going to be better than FF: Crystal Chronicles on the gamecube...I really liked the idea that FF:CC had of having 4 players on one screen each using their GBA as a controller while keeping the screen clutter free because all item options would be on the GBA screen along with the mini map, to boot it needed nothing more than just a GBA....it was only limited by the expense of having to have 4 connection cables which were really a one off...which is the major reason me and my siblings didn't bother with the multiplayer...single player was ok but clearly it was designed for more the just 1 player.
Now enter FFCC:EoT, here I was thinking that not only would it be better than the original, but that the idea of having 4 player on one screen would be finally realised thanks to the DS and it's wi-fi capabilities....
OMG was I wrong.....when the game booted up I was like, what WTF is wrong with the screen, why are their 2 boxes showing things, it makes no sense, and it was made worse by the fact that everything was tiny even on my old 50cm CRT tv, the text was illegible. So I started the game and figured out that that each box could be increased in size, not all the way but enough to make things easy to read, also found out that the first box showed the actual game, while the second showed only the mini map and other options....I thought it was a stupid design and wondered why they simply didn't overlay the mini map on top of the actual gameplay window like so many other games. On the graphics side...I was expecting something better than FF:CC on the gamecube...but what I got was graphics with low geometry, and blurred textures...it looked worse than FF:CC, hell the thought of it looking like a DS game crossed my mind...but then shook that off thinking that such a thing wouldn't be allowed, and was plain stupid.
Anyways I was ready to put all this stuff so far aside and try the 4 player on 1 screen using the DS as the controller, and thought that just maybe it would be fun enough to get past all the other stuff. So I tried to sync up the DS to the wii...I waited a while and nothing. I decided to look up the manual....and there it was...you fucking need the DS version of the same game in order to play together, I was like WTF!!!
At this stage me and my siblings were annoyed at all the BS so far, so we did the next best thing to get this dam thing running, poped over to the interwebs and downloaded the fucking roms...I know it's bad, and normally I don't do it nor condone it, I just like the homebrew stuff, but for this game I made an exception.
Now I start up the DS version...OMG it's exactly the same as what I just saw on the wii version...it's a fucking port, right down to the dual screens. I just thought, how is this shit is allowed, and what ever happened to the Nintendo seal of quality, this game has one, but this ain't quality.
So, we get all the stuff working, at this point it's just me and one other sibling...and yeah the game I guess works ok, and the fun factor was on the meh level. The thing is I wanted to be playing the 'Wii' version, with better graphics while at home, that's what home consoles are for among other things, but instead I get a DS port. if I wanted todo this I could of just played it on my DS along with someone else on their DS and be done and it would of been fine, but this isn't what I wanted.
Now I'm not saying the DS version is bad, because it's not, and the game is clearly designed for it, it's just that I wanted a home console experience just like FF:CC was on the gamecube, but what I got was a port, a crappy one to boot, and it seems that reviews clearly reflect this.
One thing is for sure, this game will be traded ASAP.
I don't know what your experiences were with the wii version and such, so feel free to post your opinion.
EDIT: Guys, I never said I bought it....I said I got a chance to play it, and if you must know the person who bought it is the same person who owns only the wii in my house hold...I my self own a PS3 which i game on quite frequently, and a wii, which I got free in a promotion which I'll sell soon enough...hope this clears things up.
