Forums - Gaming - Cruel irony or karma biting back?

If any of you guys remember Peter Wanat, the guy that bashed the Wii on Gamtrailers podcast Invisible Walls.  He produced Wanted: Weapons of Fate.

Now as to why it all relates to irony/karma is, he bashed the Wii about how various things and even said Madworld had to sell 2 million copies to break even at one point.  Why that matters?  Well the game he produced Wanted, developed by Grin studios, bombed pretty hard, to make matters worse, Grin Studios has shut down for making numerous bombs in a short period of time.  It's sad whenever a developer is lost but the irony that this producer ate his words when both his recent titles have bombed, and likely has put him in a bind, if nothing else his reputation is tarnished and it'll be much harder for him to find another producer gig.

Well I'm not happy that Grin Studios went under but I am happy that it has affected Wanat. We all know what he said was bullshit and now we can laugh at him. Haha Peter.

I'm happy grin studios has gone under.

You make bombs, you end up going under. Welcome to capitalism.

I agree, losing a game developer is never a good thing, plus the guys lost their jobs probably not like Ol' Pete.  I'm hoping they all find new places to go quickly but I hope it's damaged Pete's rep, if all he wants are HD titles he's got to at least produce one that sells well or you're leading your men to ruin.

It is rather delicious, especially since MadWorld is closing in on Wanted. Also the fact that MadWorld will be remembered long after Wanted is forgotten (if it hasn't been forgotten already)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm sad for the team that made Bionic Commando and Rearmed. Luckily, I've heard Simon Viklund and some of the others found a job at Outbreak.

But still, seriously, why are people happy about this? Sick people... Laughing at the misery of others. Even if this guy was wrong, at the end of the day, the Wii is just a fricking console.

(By the way, the studio had to make games based on licensed crap for the HD consoles/PC. What do you expect?)

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

I have to agree with SHMUPGurus, and besides, Wanat works for Universal Studios, so he's probably not too affected by this.

Theres some irony here, but its a sad time indeed.

Tease.

ANy company that requires to operate soley on publisher investement deserves to go under. It might be a shock to many, especially the developers, but once long ago all those publishers were actually developers that had to claw their way to a big businness on their own. Companies like Grin are unappreciatly feasting at the tables created, polished, covered in food by the companies set before.

Good by GRIN I hope other companies learn quickly from bad business practices.

I am pretty smug right now that Peter has to face the facts that HD != success.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

There are a LOT of independent developer that will essentially die after 1 bomb if they fail to find further publisher investement... please don't be too harsh on them when the odds are already stacked against small studios.

OT: I'm sad that Grin has died, in the current economic climate, many small studio and even publishers have gone under due to bleeding in the red, and no matter how much of an ass the producer was, the entire team that made the game was effected and they certainly did not deserve to be Jobless even if they made a flop.
