Forums - Gaming - Comeback of the arcades

I believe eventually the arcades will make a big comeback. Those will be the cinemas of the gaming industry. Virtual Reality is a dream of all most every gamer. It will also increase the popularity of games on PC and consoles. I don't think it's too hard for developers to implement a different controlsheme for this system. I do believe that we are many years away from this perhaps 20 years.

Do you think there will be a comeback?

I do, I just don't think it is going to take 20 years for it to happen.

I think something like Natal is better going arcade.

Dont call it a comeback! they're been here for years.
Rocking the peers and putting suckas in tears!

Hardware has to come down in price. I do think Natal is better for now. Yep so many suckas that don't want to pay a dollar for a 5min fail right now. The business system is broken. Should be more like cinemas pay $10 for an hour or something.

Arcades in their current form will fade away into obscurity. People stopped going, so developers stopped making games, so more people stopped going, so more developers stopped making games, etc.

There's a chance that gaming lounges can become a new age arcade scene or something along those lines, but the days of arcade machines ruling a massive space are basically over, except in Japan of course. That makes Onyxmeth a very sad puppy. Thank god Microsoft tries to fill the void with Xbox Live Arcade.

Very unlikely, arcades are basically dead in my country. the only ones that seem to do well are the ones outside cinemas.

If development technology ever rapidly surpasses what's available on consoles in such a way that PC cannot pick up the slack (like virtual reality as the OP stated), then arcades will make a comeback. Currently, there's no incentive, because consoles are evolving to have the versatility to do what old arcade machines could do. PS3 and 360 are level with most current arcade boards, all the consoles are adaptive to the peripheral-based arcade machines like DDR or Guitar Hero, and Wii has co-opted things like the light-gun machines, or the arcade racers.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

DDR proves arcades never went anywhere

you know what would go ever well in arcades Guitar Hero and Wii Sports
