Can u translate this? I thought UK was the biggest market, I doubt Germany has passed it.

Interesting as VGC has UK nearly double what Germany sells. Just this week alone total sales were 80k in UK and just 40k in Germany. France was even ahead of Germany.

These are the numbers for this year
Wii = 830k in UK - 380k for Germany = UK sold 450k more....
360 = 583k in UK - 177k for Germany = UK sold 406k more....
PS3 = 340k in UK - 168k for Germany = UK sold 172k more....
DS = 1.1m in UK - 646k for Germany = UK Sold 454k more....
PSP = 241k in UK - 191k for Germany = UK sold 50k more....
PS2 = 181k in UK - 147k for Germany = UK sold 34k more....

For 2009 thus far Germany has sold 1.7m hardware units.
For 2009 thus far UK has sold 3.2m hardware units.
Difference = UK has sold 1.6m MORE units then Germany, almost 100%.

Thus making UK market the 2nd biggest games market in the world and biggest games market in europe by a long long way. Germany is not even close.

So in terms of games sales and console sales Germany is nowhere near number one market in europe. Maybe they mean the biggest card game market in europe? ;)

Here it is Translated btw

"Germany in video game sales, the number 1 in Europe

14.08.09 - Germany, Great Britain as the largest market for video games in Europe and is replaced, the new number one in Europe. The media reports control.

While the sales figures in Germany in the first half of 2009, remained consistently high, the software sales declined in Britain by around 20 percent the previous year, as media control GfK International reported. 'The losses are particularly with the lack of new blockbuster games released in the UK together', says Tanja iron, multimedia director for media control GfK International.

The highest increases were achieved in the country Portugal, grew up around 16 percent the amount of games sold last year and the sales made to eleven percent. Iron Tanja says: 'The positive trend is to the account of the overall market, thanks to the development of new audiences across all formats, respectively. "

Positive news also come from Sweden. There grew the sales volume of console software around four percent. In the Netherlands, consumers bought 2.4 percent more than in the games kick half of 2008. Virtually unchanged besides Germany are the markets in Italy and Belgium. However, with different trends: In Italy, sales are slightly above last year's level, while developing the Belgian market trend in the opposite direction.

Nintendo's Wii Fit for Wii is one Europe's most popular games. In Germany, Britain and Austria was the best game since the beginning of the year. Besides the sports game made in Italy, Sweden and Finland, high sales figures.

Finns stretched beside their bodies especially their vocal cords: Two members of the family Singstar - Suomirock (PlayStation 2) and Suomipop (PlayStation 3) - landed in the semi-annual rankings on the front positions. Even in Sweden is one of Singstar Svenska Hits Schlager (Playstation 2) a topseller for the series.

In the semi-annual rankings are of course well-known titles such as Call Of Duty 4 (Finland), GTA Liberty City Stories (Sweden), Pokemon Platinum (Germany and Austria) or FIFA 09 (UK) represented. "

I think they mean as in the amount of growth of the industry not actual sales.
So its like saying UK sold 4m last year while Germany sold 1.5m. Thus meaning Germany increased growth while UK declined. But still sold basically 100% less then UK in actual sales.....
Way to spin it!

UK still by FAR the largest games market in Europe then, nice spin they tried to do in this article lol

Maybe they mean game market and not console game market? :) PC gaming is almost dead in UK while Germany and Eastern Europe is PC stronghold on the world map.

I don't understand Europe's obsession with Singstar games.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

its still amazing uk has sometimes double the sales of hardware and software compared to germany. I mean, our country has 61 million citizens, Germany has 82 million. But I did read somewhere that we spend the most on games per capita in the world!

Strange; A lot of Europeans buy games from the UK (importing).

Germany has by far the biggest PC game market in Europe, and if the online and digital distribution revenue of PC games is proportional to that in Germany, then I don't see why Germany can't be the number 1 market in europe.
