Forums - Sales Discussion - How are last gen's popular franchises doing this gen?

Grand Theft Auto this gen is not doing well by popularity due to GTAIV being a huge disappointment. The game sold millions of copies but don't match up to past games in the series that are critically acclaim.

How about a third entry into KOTOR this gen?

Well it is still selling. GTA san andreas was some months ago still in the charts.

I was going to add GTP, to the list, but we don't have the American numbers for GT4P.  Have you seen the total sales for GT4P somewhere else?

GT4:P never released in Americas.

Thanks for letting me know, I've added GTP to the chart, and just made a note that GT4:P was not released in all regions.

Doing this chart has made me realize that a consoles install base does not have as big of an influence on sales as I thought it did. The fact that most PS3 exclusives are selling about the same as they were on the PS2 is very surprising. With all of the debate about if GT5 can break 10 million like most of the rest of the GT franchise has, I didn't think it was possible on the PS3 install base. But now, I'm starting to think it is more likely. But then again, of the exclusives I've compared MGS4 is the biggest, so maybe between 4.5 -10 million there is a breaking point of the amount of software that can be sold on a smaller user base.

Also, a couple of games I've been looking to add but need to find out some info. Is the Socom game on PS3 a main line title, or a spinoff? Would it be fair to compare it to Socom 1-3 on PS2? Also, has Tales of Symphonia:Dawn of the New World, released in Europe? If not is it every suppose to? Thanks!

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

DAMN!!!!! @ Mario Party and Mario Kart O.o scary

Original and second post updated again, now with predictions for upcoming games, based off of the chart. Currently, if GT5 performed at the average of the games in the PS3 chart, it would sell over a 11 million copies. Seems doubtful, but who knows.

Also, since there seems to be at least a little bit of interest in this thread, I will continue updating regularly, so please check back often!

Interesting stuff, may I suggest that you re-format it for easier reading? Name + % change in userbase + % change in sales would be all you need.

Tease.

Thanks for the feedback, I've taken out the column of last gen console sales, but am not certain about deleting some of the other columns, because I think there might be some interest in them.

Can I get some other opinions, should I delete some of the other columns?  I do only need the three that Squilliam said, to get the point of the thread accross, but I also wanted people to see where I was getting the numbers from, so they weren't thinking I was making it up.  Also, if I made each column a different color would that make it easier to follow, or just hard to look at?
