Too optimistic to be true. Sony doesn´t have to drop the price so much to sell the remaining fat ps3s if the slim comes out. The price will be the same as the slim.

If they do sell at that price, Sony will still be selling the PS3 at a loss and I'm not sure how much more they can take. Even though Sony did say they managed to drop the production cost of the PS3 by roughly 70% (amazing), I'm still not sure they can manage a $199 price tag. What I think Sony needs is marketing, I mean, OMFG, their marketing has been from very little to non-existent; I'm happy to see they are finally picking up on this. But yeah, at $199 they could close the gap significantly, and more PS3's in peoples homes would solve many of their problems, especially the whole lack of major third party support.

I guess that might be more plausible. Clearing stock is what they need to do right now to ready up for the PS3 Slim. Oh, and a question off topic. Can you see my Portable ID? I mean, all I see is the HTML coding. :(

Several european retailers are already clearing the stock by dropping ps3 bundles to 299 euros, so maybe Sony won´t have to sell the fat so low.

D: Dang. I wonder what's wrong, I put the HTML coding into the signature thingie. oo; It should show up, it shows up when I am in editing mode. And I agree, they are selling well in Europe at 299 euros. But I am thinking about America, they are way behind 360, they have half the user base of the 360. They need some definitive action in NA to at least close the gap by a couple of million units. I'm not sure if PS3 Slim can be considered definitive action per se. I mean, sure, PS3 price cut + PS3 Slim + GT5 + Whatever gamescom brings might = PS3 sales boost, but for how long?

If the fat ps3 did go for $199, almost all of my friends would buy one for sure
