Not all PS3 games upscale to 1080p. Any PS3 game that either remains at 1080p or switches from it, back to it, is either native 1080p or can upscale into 1080p. Otherwise, most PS3 games can only output at 720p, regardless of a 1080p native HDTV.

IMO, this is a hefty advantage for the 360, it can upscale ANY game to 1080p. It just doesn't have any games rendered in 1080p like the PS3 does, at least not to my knowledge.

Actually, you can force the games to play at 1080p by disabling other resolutions. That's why I find this weird: it can upscale, but won't do it unless you force it to.

BTW, what's vg$?

The game is not REALLY being upscaled though. The games can only output at 720. When you force 1080p on a non-1080p game, there is absoultely NO noticeable difference.

LOL, the game is being upscaled, you mean it's not being rendered at that resolution. I don't expect many games to render at 1080p anyway, I'm perfectly happy with upscaling.

It is money you earn by being a quality poster. You can redeem it for video games and peripherals at the VGC store.

Sorry if I'm coming off as stupid, but where's this store?

Here is the store. If you simply insert your membership information instead of a credit card, it automatically deducts the money from your VGC$ account.

Just so I'm clear, 1 vg$=1 real $?

Correct. The money was provided by the US Congress. It appropriated $1 billion in the ARRA of 2009 to stimulate the video game industry. VGC$ is meant to accomplish this goal.

Sarcasm?

so I can by stuff with my VG$????....no my money??

I think you guys are getting confused. In most games the PS3 sends a 720p signal to the TV which does the upscaling to 1080p if your screen supports the resolution.

A 720p signal thats not upscaled by a 1080p TV would not fill up the screen.

All the 360 does differently is handle the upscaling itself.

Yes. VGC$ is either something you gain for being a good poster and contributing to the site (for example, adding screenshots to the database), or it is something you lose for being banned. It can be used to purchase applications such as the IM service, or it can be waged in the prediction league.

Most of the time it is the game output.

Rendered would mean it's native, which isn't the case for MOST games this gen. What I'm saying is, you can force the game to run at 1080p, but tell me, what are the differences?

I understand what you're saying, but look at it this way: you can watch a DVD at its native 480p or get it upscaled to 1080p. Which would you choose.

I know that upscaling to 1080p won't make games any more detailed, but doesn't mean I wouldn't like it upscaled. ;p

Well I can really see that the PS3 doesn't upscale every game to 1080p on my monitor. A shame because I get a clearer picture when I play 360 games.

I'm aware of that, he's just saying that games are "rendered' IN 1080P with the 720p and 1080i options turned off on your PS3. I think he's confusing rendering and upscaling.

For instance...

Fight Night Round 4 can upscale to 1080p on PS3. Wipeout HD is native 1080p, meaning it was developed and rendered in 1080p.

No, you misunderstood me. I know the difference between rendering and upscaling.
