Just looked at a separate thread about predictions for the first 10 weeks of MH3 sales and i can honestly say it hasn't performed below any of the posters on that threads' expectations. No-one predicted above 1M LTD so i would say it is performing well within expectations.

an initial shipment of 1million units tells you you are wrong.

If the initial shipment is at 70% sell-through after only 8 days then it is supply-constrained and therefore hard to find so will need another shipment. Especially with a holiday coming up. And you can bet the second shipment will concentrate on the most popular, therefore harder to find at mo SKU. Therefore sales should remain pretty good for a few weeks yet.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Capcom shipped 1 Million Copies, but it only sold ~700k in 2 Weeks, and many retailer are cutting the prices, so it didnt meet expectations = it bombed.
Its that easy, get over it..

Kinda miss the old days... didn't have as many people to give their silly opinions.

Personally, over 700,000 in 9 days ain't bad. We all knew it was going to drop off heavily after the first week. I had actually thought it would have dropped to under 100,000 but it seems it was able to hold up. So 580,000 to 140,000 isn't bad. Already doing a hell of a lot better than the PS2 ones and at least building off the popularity that the PSP games made it out to be. 280,000 left to go to reach a million in Japan, I don't think it should have to many issues getting that. Although it could fall short if it isn't seen as a big title on Wii later in the year and doesn't get holiday boosts but we'll see. At the least though we should see 900,000.

My biggest surprise is Tales of VS. I'm actually surprised so many people bought that... and then the question of why. Had all these other actual Tales RPGs and they bought a Tales Fighter. PSP crowd there sure is weird. Very disappointed by Blood of Bahamut and I'm sure SE is as well but hey trying to compete with their own DQIX is never a good idea.

What I really want to see is how hardware stood up.

I can't read this thread anymore. If the best selling third party game in Japan is a bomb after not even two weeks then the gaming industry REALLY is in trouble....

All of that is the retailers decision, retailers have nobody to blame but themselves.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

It's a bomb because it failed to meet the expectations of the developers and retailers. This is a big thing. They shipped 1million units, do you people not understand that if it does not sell over 70k next week that it may _never_ sell its first shipment? That's not good.

It's not a bomb based on its sales. Its sales are fine, I'm sure capcom will not loose too much money on the game and possibly pull a little profit as it itches closer to 1m.

Monster hunter has had crazy success in japan, the last game sold almost 3.6m units (and its heavily under tracked in Americas/Others on a platform that is supposedly DEAD.

success in general, yes. success as a monster hunter title, no. success in the eyes of developers/retailers? absolutely not, it is a failure.

Capcom shipped them, but retailers bought them. This 1 million isn't capcom's decision, but that of retailers. It is their fault for ordering too many. Also remember guys this game will probably make just as much money as any PSP version if they pull off having at least an eight of the people who bought the game subscribe. So... A subscription based online focused game, sells 700k in less than 2 weeks outselling all console games in that region as well as all console entries in the series, and it is a bomb. Yep.

Of course is performing well... just the same old people, claiming the same old thing "Wii bad"

Going by their logic I just realized MGS4 was DA MEGA BOMB!!! in Japan. Who would've thought

PS3 harware base when MGS4 launched: 2.2milj.

Wii hardware base when Monster Hunter tri launched: 8.3milj.

Best selling MGS game in japan (MGS2): 870k

Best selling Monster Hunter game in Japan: 3.35milj.

Maybe that should tell you something...and I don't say that MH3 bombed but it hasn't sell as well as expected.

Oh, so we go by hardware base? Damn, i always thought God of War 1 & 2 sold well, but they freaking BOMBED hard too i guess.

I mean, you are also comparing portable with home consoles, so .... that should really tell YOU something x)

But when MGS4 sells only 200k less than MGS3 did with huge PS2 hardware base you can't even joke that it was a bomb. And why not compare home consoles to handhelds when we are comparing game sales? So we can't compare DQIX sales to DQVIII sales because latest one was handheld game?
