Forums - Nintendo - HUGE Nintendo Press Conference! Lots of Big Announcements Inside!

@ItsaMii:

Don't worry, the one that's coming out this year is by all accounts very good. The fourth one hasn't even been officially announced for NA release, I don't think...

Oh yeah, the 3rd one is the best in the series. I loved it. I already imported, played, and beat it a month or so ago. I highly recommend that.

More on Monster Hunter 3 from IGN. They seem convinced it's the main game in the series.

October 9, 2007 - With its two PSP entries now above the million mark in sales, Capcom's Monster Hunter series has established itself as one of Japan's favorite franchises. And now, it's coming to Japan's favorite console.

At a press conference held in Japan today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Monster Hunter 3 will be coming to the Wii. Aside from this, details were not provided. A release date is currently undecided.

The third numbered entry in Capcom's million selling franchise was previously announced for the PS3, but was never shown. The PS3 version of the game is currently number 5 on the Famitsu most wanted list.

It's unclear if the announcement of a Wii version means the PS3 version has been canned, or if you'll be able to hunt monsters on your platform of choice. Following the press conference, Capcom released a statement formally announcing the game as a Wii title. However, it did refer to the Monster Hunter franchise as being part of its multiplatform strategy.

Monster Hunter is called "Monster Hunter 3 tri" which would imply it is just another spin-off... is this for true? I hope not so...

Well since the PS3 version Monster Hunter 3 has been officially canceled (or at least removed from their release lists), and this just showed up, I'd say it's not a spin-off lol. Still, it's not certain.

Didn´t know Monster Hunter 3 was cancelled.

Still it says: (...)while expanding our properties for multiple platforms.(...)

the word multiple is what is making me nervous. I really hope it is an exclusive title because if it is, this would be the final step for Nintendo to get big third party support. If Capcom takes Nintendo serious,  all others have to, I guess.

The word multiple should get you excited! They will probably announce a DS version of the game soon that you can uplink with the Wii version. Or it could just mean they are still making it for the PSP.

By multiplatform they mean the transition from PSP and PS2 to the Wii IMO.

monster hunter 3 is not a spin off. For those that can't read japanese all you need to know is that 正当な続編 (seitou na zokuhen) means "proper sequal."

Nintendo butt kissing is annoying as usual, but still, I am blown away. If this doesn't boost the Nintendo hype machine, I don't know what will.

Bullshit. This is on the board for Nintendo, and the OP is just running off the list of announcments Nintendo made themselves. Why don't you call blu-ray butt kissing on the Sony board? I'm reporting you for trolling.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Thanks John. That certainly helps clear things up. It's kind of funny that this news comes just hours after a heated debate about 3rd parties not caring about the Wii heh.

i think we're really starting to see the results of Nintendo's strong sales since launch right now. I'm sure Monster Hunter 3 was fully intended to be on the PS3 until they saw the sales of the PS3 in Japan.
