is this just the usa or ww??

I think it is just USA because Nielsen is an American research company.

If you follow the link back to the nielsen page, it has some other interesting facts.  Like playstation tends to be pretty gender neutral, while xbox skews towards males and wii skews towards females.

Not surprising, though I think with all the shooters on the 360, they tends to be males - and women talk about WiiFit sooo much. The only women I've heard talk about a PS3 were talking about watching Blu Rays.

Personally, all of the systems are cool and can keep a gamer's attention. The 360 is really aiming to be the default HD system this gen, though.

The ps3 has the exact same number of shooters as the 360 or at least pretty close, give or take 1.  Although the shooters it does have seem to be more popular  (halo, gears vs killzone, resistance).  However, I'm sure shooters alone aren't the reasons the 360 skews towards male.  I think it has more to do with xbox live than anything.

If they are watching a film it doesn't = playing a game in my opinion.

usage:

If your using it for DvD, Blu-Ray, Web, Music, Games, your using it.

showing that the unit you use for entertainment can keep you entertained without games, shows a true entertainment system.

Yes mate I've understood this, what I don't understand is why they've used the word "playing", maybe it's a localised thing, who knows.

Ive never understood how someone can measure how much time is spent on a console. How do you measure 100 million peoples time?

Great news for the 360, but I don't think it would be the same in Europe. I would have thought the PS2 would still be the number 1 played console, if its sticking up there with the 360 in the US

Not just shooters - but Netflix, the party features on LIVE - and it's way cheap for college kids to buy one without hestitating. The PS3 on a college kid's budget is possible but not as easy to get as a 360. And that's where it's thriving.

What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

The Xbox 360 really has that attach rate.

This is all lies...

We have a story on this on the front page.

There more to the story than just this.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I guess it may also indicate but not prove that Netflix is more important than BR?

Tease.
