Denial.

People dont want to belive that Gran Turismo can outsell another certain racing franchise.
Also, a lot of people want to belive that Halo > Gran Turismo, which is false.

Gee, thanks for trying to turn this into a flame war.

Honesty = Flamebait?

Nope, you're just as guilty as anyone of everytime a Forza or a Gran Turismo thread comes along, you try to turn it into a war between the two games. Any person knows GT will sell better, but apparently any criticism anybody might have of the beloved Gran Turismo gets them labelled as a "Forza fanboy" by you, so quit acting like you're a saint, when you're as guilty of it as anybody else.

Are you kidding me? The only person that ever starts a flamewar in those threads is " Selnor", he always calls FORZA 3 the "graphics king" and always brings out points on how it is superior to GRAN TURISMO in every way possible, and then when we posts some GT5 P screens they are clearly pre rendered to him. Then he claims that FORZA 3 will outsell GT5 because GT5 P sold less than forza 2.. dont say its not true because thats all he says in those threads.

People still goin at it in here? What's the deal, Gran Turismo is big, plain and simple. Let's move on now.

Did you actually read the OP? He made the comparison of Gran Turismo 5 on the PS2 to Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 showing they are near equivalents in NA sales to prove Gran Turismo 5 is big in America. You don't see the fallacy in that argument?

GT5 on PS3.... I know, just a typo, don't shoot me!!!

I did see the fallacy in that argument, but I'm just saying the game IS big here. Whether or not it's as big as Halo here, that's another matter in which case, if he says it is, I happily disagree. GT is big WW, but Halo RULES NA, period!

So what I wonder is if the OP's argument is that poor, why is the majority of people in this thread defending his OP, bringing in Forza Motorsport, still comparing it to Halo, and bringing in worldwide sales? Really most of this thread has been a gigantic group effort to skate around the issue, which is that regardless of GT being "big" in America, it's nowhere near as big as Halo and it is currently in a state of decline. You'd like to think people didn't play their console political sides so close to the chest, but that seems to be the case here...and yes, that includes Squilliam too.

How in the world is Gran turismo in a state of decline? When GT4 is selling extreemly well to date, and GT5 prologue is nearing 4 million copies sold?!

My Op is not a fallacy. I was just using as an example because GT3 has more in commin with 5 then what 4 does. And i was just stating you cant call a franchise not a killer app in NA if it can sell as much as The HUGE Halo 3.

Obviously the potential is dare. And how can you say the NA is on a downwards trend when we have had only one GT game since Number 3.

and we all know that 9 times out of 10 a 2nd installment of a franchise on the same console declines in sales. Then the series sales will rise again when on a new console.

I am not saying that GT5 will sell 15 mill or anything. I am just telling you past trends.

Plus this thread was just to shut up those people who keep saying that GT is not Huge in NA

Actually Prologue has the most in common with GT5. That is telling you on the current userbase which regions are most interested in the franchise. The fallacy in your new argument is thinking this has something to do with a decline in worldwide sales. It's not about that. It's about the decline in NA sales. Europe is actually going to continue to rise and make up the difference. The 5 million drop between GT3 and GT4 doesn't matter. What matters is how much less NA made up the sales percentage in GT4 in comparison to GT3 and that trend has continued with Prologue.

I'm glad you've tried to shut up some argument, but your counter argument won't do a damn thing, because it makes no sense. People aren't going to change their minds that GT is not as big anymore so long as you use an 8 year old game to try and prove your point. You might as well just use the original GT to base your argument off of for all the difference it'll make. The further you have to go back to prove your point, the more right you make them seem.

it will be a big game, I'd peg it as doing around 1.5 million in america LTD. I think it will do 5-7 million LTD unless Sony does a huge bundling push with this game like they did with GT3 (which was bundled with the ps2 ww for almost a year, biggest reason it got the sales it did).

as big a game as halo in america... not a chance.

Being as this thread is about NA i already knew you ment that ;)

And if you think a prologue can tell you how well the real game is going to do in each region the i suggest you check the sales figures for GT4: Prologue in Europe.

You don't understand what I'm saying. I think Prologue is a good example of how the regional percentages will go, not the actual sale numbers. I'm going to pull the following numbers out of my ass, but you'll get the point. Let's say the breakdown for Prologue is like this:

25% of sales in NA
25% of sales in JPN
50% of sales in EU

I believe these percentages will be closer to how GT5 will sell than the percentages of GT3, which clearly favor a dominant NA percentage of sales. With the series only realistically able to do like 10 million or so without massive bundling, the best case scenario for GT5 in NA is like 2.5-3 million, which is far lower than GT3's 7 something million and shows a decline in NA.

Anything other than NASCAR simply isn't popular in America - end of story.

Just like Madden doesn't sell that well out of America.
